Job Description

JOB/POSITION TITLE: Outreach Coordinator


Status: Exempt


Primary Purpose:


Administer and develop outreach programs to promote the Hawaiian Humane Society and create a pet-friendly community. Organize the Pet Visitation and Pet Loss Support Group programs. Serve as liaison to existing Pet Visitation sites and build relationships with new program partners. Manage volunteers in coordination with the Volunteer Services team. Maintain statistics and collateral materials; and provide other assistance for all other Outreach programs including Pet Food Bank and community clinics.


Reports to: Manager of Community Outreach


Supervises: Volunteers


Essential Duties & Functions:


  • Program Management & Community Building. Provide primary support including partner and volunteer management for the Pet Visitation and Pet Loss Support Groups. Evaluate enhance and manage these programs to strengthen and expand the relationship between the Hawaiian Humane Society and the community. Assist the Outreach team in all aspects of its programs and serve as the backup to the Outreach Manager for related activities.

  • Education & Recruitment Support. In partnership with the Outreach Manager be responsible for recruiting for the Hawaiian Humane Societys needs and its Outreach programs. Assist the manager in identifying and securing opportunities to promote all Outreach programs to general and specific audiences such as social service organizations.

  • Pet Visitation Program. Conduct assessments coordinate directly with facilities and volunteers and ensure a quality experience for both. Provide program updates to the Outreach Manager and the Community Engagement team. Maintain and report statistics design and produce collateral in collaboration with the Communications team.

  • Pet Loss Support Group. Field calls from the public and those in need of counseling. Coordinate group therapy sessions and communicate with those who have lost pets. Facilitate the Pet Loss Support Group as needed providing program updates to the Outreach Manager and the Community Engagement team.

  • Administrative Reporting. Track and report statistics related to all Outreach programs. Collect and share photos and stories of events and participants to build awareness of and support for Outreach programs.

Other Duties/Functions:


  • Contribute ideas for internal and external improvements to the organization.

  • May include organization-wide support as needed such as but not limited to participation in events and any other duties assigned by the Director of Community Engagement.

JOB CONDITIONS:


  • Work Environment: Indoors and outdoors; working with animals and people. Varying locations and surfaces

  • Equipment Use: Use of PC camera printer copier phone and occasional use of Hawaiian Humane Societys and personal vehicle.

  • Hours: 40 hours/5 days per week with days off dependent on scheduling for clinics and other events.

MENTAL PHYSICAL AND COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:


  • Must have passion and empathy for both animals and people.
  • Must agree with and be committed to Hawaiian Humane goals objectives and programs.
  • Must have a general knowledge and understanding of Hawaiian culture history and communities.
  • Must possess excellent people management skills and be sensitive to the needs of vulnerable populations.
  • Must maintain personal conduct appearance and office space to present as a professional and as a spokesperson for the organization. This includes a well-groomed and professional appearance clean office areas and exercising compassion patience and tact when dealing with difficult emotional or angry individuals. Requires handling both people and animals in a pleasant courteous and professional manner.
  • Must have the ability to work independently prioritize multiple tasks and collect and analyze data.
  • Requires occasional lifting and carrying of up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and compassionately both orally and in writing when giving presentations conducting interviews and providing training and supervision. Requires excellent telephone skills.

Qualification Requirements:


  • Skills/Knowledge: Must be computer literate including but not limited to working knowledge of Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint. Have excellent oral and written communication skills program coordination and organization skills and data input and analysis skills. Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced office and work with multiple priorities and deadlines with accuracy. A valid drivers license good driving record access to own automobile and proof of no-fault insurance are required. Must be able to travel for presentations events and training as needed.

  • Education/Training: A college degree or equivalent experience required.

  • Experience: A minimum of two years experience working with the public is required. Experience with cause-oriented projects volunteer management and mobilization public speaking and working with individuals with special needs preferred.
