POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Internal Audit Manager the Audit Specialist position performs audits to determine compliance with National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) and other audits as assigned to assess the effectiveness of internal controls accuracy of financial records and efficiency of casino operations policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi reserves the right to change amend add delete and otherwise assign any and all duties responsibilities and position titles as it deems necessary to meet the needs of the government.
- Conduct audits to ensure compliance with established internal control procedures by examining documentation departmental records reports and operating procedures in detail.
- . Test areas of casino departments based on the Gaming Regulatory Act Gaming Commission Regulations other federal and state regulations Tribal Internal Controls and FireKeepers policies and procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies processes procedures as described in the scopes of audits performed. Assist in reporting observed weaknesses or instances of non-compliance and make recommendations for correction or improvements.
- Provide ongoing reporting to executive management and share best practices on areas to improve efficiency in operations.
- Analyze data obtained for evidence of deficiencies in controls duplication of effort fraud or lack of compliance with laws government regulations and management policy and procedures.
- Prepare and submit audit findings that are adequately documented with requisite audit evidence.
- Audit various non-gaming areas and departments (Indian Preference in Contracting Code Tribal Preference in Hiring etc.).
- Commit to continuous learning by having the ability to develop and improve skills and knowledge perform efficiently and effectively and adapt to changes in the workplace to enhance performance.
- Develop a conceptual understanding of all FireKeepers Gaming related jobs their functions and maintain working knowledge of all FireKeepers Internal Controls.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
An applicants education training and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the ability to successfully perform each of the essential functions. - AS or AA in Accounting Business or related field; or equivalent experience related to Audit/Compliance.
- Requisite knowledge of general accounting principles and audit practices.
- Requisite administrative organizational and communication skills.
- Requisite knowledge of record keeping/documentation procedures and practices.
- Recognition of regulatory terminology with the ability to interpret and apply Tribal Federal State local and other relevant laws regulations/codes and internal controls. *
- Requisite navigation and utilization of Microsoft Outlook Word and Excel.
- Ability to initiate contact with people as in the course of conducting audits e.g. interviewing fact-finding etc.
- Abilityto navigate computer programs necessary to track gaming activity and verify information in the course of an audit.
- Preservation and protection of sensitive information while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Work and function well in a team setting as well as independently.
- Attend training and travel as required.
- Successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
- Meet the suitability standards necessary to obtain and maintain a Gaming License.
- Strong desire to attain industry certifications.
* Training in lieu of experience may be substituted contingent upon successful post-training application of newly acquired skill set.
Preferred Qualifications
- Native American gaming industry experience.
- BA BS degree in Accounting Business or related field.
- Professional designations such as CFE CIA CPA or ACAMS.

INDIAN PREFERENCE

Employee will work mainly in an office setting handling administrative duties for NHBP employees and/or tribal community members. While performing the responsibilities of this position the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers for extended periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stand walk reach with arms and hands climb or balance and to stoop kneel or crouch.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
