Program Overview Language Programs Community Programs
Newcomer Programs & Services has served newcomers and refugees in Toronto for over four decades. Its mandate is to help newcomers and refugees settle adjust and integrate into society. Funded by the three levels of government WoodGreen Newcomer Programs & Services operates English language training programs settlement services employment support programs mentorship networking activities and social and recreational activities. The Settlement Counsellor is responsible for supporting newcomers and their families in their integration process by providing timely and accurate information and orientation facilitating attachments to vital key services and resources internally and externally to help newcomers including refugees make informed decisions and engage in social economic and civic life in Canada.

The Supervisor Language Programs and Community Connections is accountable to the Senior Manager of Newcomer Language Programs for assisting in the operational planning implementation supervision and evaluation of high-quality outcome-focused Language Training and Community Connections programing at WoodGreen Community Services. The Supervisor provides direct leadership to a team of 48 staff aligning day-to-day operations with broader program and organizational goals. The Supervisor also builds and strengthens relationships with communities public institutions and private sector organizations to expand the reach and effectiveness of programs. These programs assist newcomers in settling and integrating into Canada while fostering a welcoming inclusive and diverse community.

What You Will Do
  • Assist Sr. Manager in the day-to-day operations of Language Services activities in the onsite offsite and virtual locations
  • Directly supervise a team of 48 direct reports ensuring alignment with funder expectations and organizational priorities.
  • Lead planning delivery and evaluation of Language Training and Community Connections programming.
  • Support program staff through mentorship coaching performance management and professional development.
  • Develop and implement annual work plans and meet all qualitative and quantitative key performance indicators.
  • Conduct outreach and develop relationships with:
  • Recent immigrants and newcomers
  • Established residents and community volunteers
  • Employers professional bodies and service providers
  • Public institutions (libraries schools hospitals)
  • Promote inclusive community-building and volunteerism through program activities and partnerships.
  • Assess newcomer needs and community demographics to identify service gaps and opportunities.
  • Plan and deliver in-person and online services using digital tools (e.g. social media webinars digital communication platforms).
  • Design and execute quarterly outreach initiatives that build awareness and engagement.
  • Support communications and promotional efforts (flyers brochures social media reports).
  • Ensure data collection analysis and reporting through tools such as HARTs CRM MentorCity and iCARE.
  • Lead partnership-building activities and mapping of existing community support resources to enhance service coordination and client outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with IRCC guidelines program targets and WoodGreen policies.
  • Champion principles of anti-racism equity and community development in all aspects of programming.
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives special projects and broader Community Programs unit goals.

What You Bring to the Team
  • A relevant bachelors degree; TESL Ontario Diploma/Certification is an asset.
  • 4 years of relevant experience in the non-profit sector with some progressive leadership in adult education working with newcomer communities and internationally trained professionals
  • Demonstrated success in supervising unionized teams through performance evaluation training and development.
