Position: Family Service Assistant
Program and Location: Head Start North Platte Center
Position Summary: The Family Service Assistant is the link between families and the community provides support to center staff and works closely with teachers.
Responsibilities:
- Recruit eligible families including children with disabilities maintain a wait list and generate enrollment acceptance letters.
- Maintain funded enrollment replace open slots within 30 days of opening and maintain a wait list throughout the program year.
- Ensure behavioral/emotional hearing vision dental and physical screenings are completed within the required time frame.
- Ensure health service mandates are in compliance mental health observations occur a Child Health History is complete and track all follow-up information.
- Provide information to families regarding community events parent education classes and other items of importance.
- Actively refer families to resources available in the community.
- Pursue partnerships with community resources.
- Recruit and maintain Policy Council parent community and alternate representatives.
- Maintain an open line of communication with families.
- Be actively engaged in all Head Start activities and model appropriate behavior.
Tasks:
- Submit paperwork in an organized timely manner.
- Ensure ongoing and end of year transition activities take place.
- Recruit and maintain Policy Council representatives and alternates provide transportation to required meetings and communicate agenda minutes and meetings dates to members.
- Facilitate and attend Family Connection Events.
- Attend initial and mid-year home visits along with the Teacher.
- Attend partner meetings and present to community organizations.
- Ensure childrens immunizations are up to date.
- Assist in the classroom as needed.
Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED. Family Services Certification AA or Bachelors Degree in Social Work or Human Services preferred. Previous experience in early childhood health social services or related field.
Required Skills:
- Previous experience in early childhood health social services or related field.
- Basic computer skills.
- Teamwork and leadership skills.
- Good interpersonal skills the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the general public as well as other agency employees.
- Must keep all agency matters confidential.
Schedule/Hours: 40 hours per week for 39 weeks per year Monday through Friday (approximate hours are 7:30 am 4:00 pm).
Pay Rate: Entry-level rate of pay is $17.50 per hour.
Benefits: With benefits the wage calculates to an approximate value of $22.40 per hour. Agency benefits include: paid holidays PTO short term disability insurance and Employee Assistance Program.
