Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: The Middle School Transition Specialist willcollaborate with administrators teachers and parents to ensure that all students are successful and develop strongsocial-emotional skillsto help them succeed. The Specialist will also promote an effective learning environment serve as an active member of the school leadership team and provide direct service to students staff and parents around the areas of behavior management student intervention restorative practices trauma-informed care and positive relationships.This is a grant-funded position utilizing funds from the Concentration of Poverty Grant.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least three (3) years of successful teaching experience.
  • Eligible for a Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate in appropriate teaching field; Administrator I and/or Administrator II certification preferred.
  • Experience as a trainer for staff development to teachers with proven knowledge of current research and best practices in secondary instruction and management techniques.
  • Proficiency in maintaining academic and discipline records of students.
  • Technology skills; including the ability to learn new software applications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain visibility. Promote a favorable image of the school and school system.
  • Oversee Restorative Approaches/Conscious Discipline programming in ISS and upon return from OSS.
  • Coordinate bullying prevention education
  • Collaborate to develop and deliver professional developmentaround trauma-informed approaches teaching with poverty in mind and management & progressive discipline
  • Triage referrals for a singular grade level and support that team of teachers in making referrals to the Tier 3 team
  • Manage a caseload of students identified as needing Tier 2 support
  • Engage in parent education providingresources to support positive behavior development outside of school
  • Provide coaching service in management strategies with new and experienced staff including but not limited to the strategies listed above co-planning modeling of strategies co-teaching and reviewing of student needs.
  • Keep adequate and current records of student discipline and progress toward academic goals.
  • Document contacts with teachers parents students and administrators.
  • Serve as an active member of the school leadership team (Student Safety SIT and PBC) and the Tier 3 Team to support school-wide success.
  • Follow policies and procedures of the assigned county school systems and schools.
  • Monitors program effectiveness through data collection and analysis
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the building Principal

PAY & HOURS: This position is an 11-month position with a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. Caroline County Board of Education Teacher Salary Scale. Placement on the appropriate salary lane/step will be based on knowledge experience skills and abilities related to this position.
