Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The position of Early Learning Preschool Lead Teacher is directly responsible for providing an educational and nurturing inclusive learning environment that meets the developmental needs of all children including those with disabilities in all preschool classrooms including multi-language and Early Childhood Assistance Education Program (ECEAP).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)

Observes and assesses the development of children.
Plans and implements required curricula based on individualized child assessments.
Guides and interacts with children during age/developmentally appropriate learning activities.
Designs the classroom environment and maintains a clean organized and safe environment for children that meets Early Achievers quality standards.
Implements and supervises developmentally appropriate learning activities.
Builds positive relationships with children and families.
Plans and implements guidance strategies for children.
Engages families in classroom and program planning and activities including offering conferences quarterly to align with TS Gold checkpoints.
May assist families in establishing school readiness goals.
Maintains records of students which includes documentation of observations student assessments and childs work.
Works with children in a warm and confident manner individually and in group settings.
Responds appropriately to the needs of children and communicates with parents.
Works with a diverse population of children including children with special needs.
Communicates effectively with staff.
Works effectively as a team member in planning and implementing appropriate activities.
Mediates conflicts between children.
Keeps current on emergency procedures including child safety drills.
Ensures that children are in auditory/visual supervision range at all times.
Attends staff meetings and professional development trainings.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports directly to and is supervised by Building Administrator

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this require):

Required:
AA in Early Childhood Education or DCYF approved equivalent.

Preferred:
Experience working with children with diverse aptitudes and levels of achievement.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class require):

Valid First Aid and CPR certification
Registration in state electronic workforce registry (Merit)
Completion of Merit Portable background check
TB skin test
Food Handler Permit
Proof of MMR or immunity to measles
Completion of applicable training requirements including Child Care Basics

KNOWLEDGE OF: (position requirements at entry):

Understands State Performance Standards
Child development and behavior management
Age and developmentally appropriate practices and activities
Health safety injury prevention and sanitary practices


SKILLS (position requirements at entry):

Commitment and ability to work with a full range of students including those with disabilities English language learners and students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds
Implements individualized and group developmentally appropriate curricula
Observes child behavior changes and take necessary health and safety precautions

Demonstrates multicultural sensitivity with the ability to effectively and collaboratively work with diverse populations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: stooping kneeling crouching reaching standing walking pushing pulling lifting finger dexterity grasping talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts odors chemicals extreme temperatures inadequate lighting workspace restrictions and intense noises.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

AISP pay range E $33.07 to $35.02 (starting at $33.07 per hour). This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. 40 hours per week (8:00am to 4:30pm M-F) for a 192 day annual dental vision long-term disability and life-insurance eligibility is based upon 630 hours worked within a school year. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems.
