Job Description

Title: Academic Support Coach CSP

Employee Classification: PT - Professional/Technical

General Summary

Provides services and support to students enrolled in EMUs College Support Program (CSP) for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Coaches have specialized knowledge and expertise in a particular area such as supporting people with developmental disabilities. This position is responsible for assessing student needs implementing and reviewing individualized support plans and working with other campus resources in meeting/achieving student service needs.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in both preliminary and on-going coaching/training sessions with assigned students enrolled in the CSP to assess their academic and social progress.
  • Document coaching sessions with specific facts and data using assigned tools and procedures as outlined by CSP.
  • Orient assigned students in the CSP to campus resources including academic advising career counseling CAPS Registrar Library and other key resources.
  • Communicate key matters. Including but not limited to: completion of student contact sheets; follow-ups with students and families; completion of monthly report to families; and completion of student outcome evaluations.
  • Work with the Disability Resource Center (DRC) and the CATE Lab Testing Center to facilitate interactions as needed with assigned students.
  • Attend other meetings as assigned including periodic program meetings and meetings with instructors and other EMU employees.
  • Comply with all CSP policies and procedures as well as the applicable professional code(s) of ethics.
  • Perform related departmental duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of ASD typically acquired through the completion of a bachelors degree is required.

Experience working with adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders is required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and documentation skills are required.

Ability to establish rapport with students and families is required.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all levels is required.

Ability to work in a variety of settings with culturally-diverse families and communities.

Preferred Qualifications:

A masters degree in one of the following fields is preferred: Special Education / Education Social Work Mental Health and Clinical Counseling Psychology.

Knowledge of EMU resources is preferred.
