UCF IT Telecommunications:
UCF IT Telecommunications provides the technological backbone of the university. We design install support and secure the telecommunications and network infrastructure for the entire UCF community. We provide high quality reliable cost effective and innovative enterprise level communication solutions through various teams including: Unified Communications Network Services Radio/DAS and Installation Maintenance & Repair.
The Opportunity:
Are you passionate about technology and eager to kick-start your career in network engineering UCF IT Telecommunications is seeking a Network Engineer I with a demonstrated interest in an entry level IT role and a willingness to learn new concepts in a fast-paced environment. As a Network Engineer with the Technical Operations Team you will play a crucial role in supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the UCF network. Primary responsibilities include handling a wide range of break/fix issues and network-related service requests. This position also assists in monitoring the overall health of the network and managing the teams ticket queues to ensure the teams high standard of performance metrics. During the start of each Fall semester Technical Operations focuses mostly on supporting students moving into on-campus housing. Network Engineers have the opportunity to be involved with longer-term projects that will ensure the networks high performance reliability and security. Provided expertise will be instrumental in shaping the future of our network environment.

Responsibilities:
LAN Implementation & Support:
Provide entry level network design installation and troubleshooting for the University network.
Solve basic networking issues through physical and logical investigation. Will assist other team members with tickets projects documentation and escalation (if required).
Tickets & Documentation:
Follow SOP as determined by specific sub-group within the department to complete assigned tickets and projects within set performance metrics and to the standards of the university and department.
Include work-order/ ticket flows documentation outage communication and customer interactions.
Network Applications:
Work within network software applications (Cisco Prime/Catalyst Center PRTG Extreme Site Engine SecureCRT ThousandEyes etc.) to complete assigned tasks.
Network Monitoring:
Utilize network software to effectively monitor overall network health utilization and potential issues.
Provide status reports and assist with solutions to network issues based on system information.
Vendor Interaction & Communication:
Work directly with manufacture escalation services (Cisco TAC Extreme GTAC Vertiv etc.).
Process RMAs Communicate status effectively with UCF IT Telecommunications management peers and UCF customers.
Training & Conferences:
Attend various seminars training and conferences related to current or emerging technologies as needed.
Will be given various opportunities to obtain certifications based on specific training and departmental goals.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree; or High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information
Preferred Qualifications:
We welcome candidates with any of the following experience or qualifications:
Experience with wireless networking technologies and troubleshooting.
Service desk or customer service experience with a strong ability to assist and support users effectively
Network Deployment and Support:
Basic LAN and wireless skills to efficiently diagnose and resolve issues.
Project management experience to oversee vendor assisted deployments.
Knowledgeable in OSPF IOS-XE EXOS VLANs Spanning-Tree IoT devices Windows MacOS etc.
Certifications:
Cisco Certified Support Technician and/or Network Associate.
CompTIA Security and/or Network.
Extreme Networks training and/or certifications.
Special Instructions to the Applicants:
This position must be available 24/7 in case of an emergency and maybe asked to work during emergency situations including early late weekend holiday hours and/or University closures such as during a hurricane. Since UCF IT Telecommunications is considered a Mission Essential component of UCFs operational capability. This position is required to be in the office Monday-Friday. Additionally a person in this position may be asked to work a flexible schedule that includes non-traditional hours to perform essential job functions that cannot be performed during normal business hours.
