Job Description

What are we looking for

Microschool Teaching Fellow - We are looking for a dynamic creative and agile teacher
focused on late-elementary and middle-school education to drive the pilot year of a Microschool
for 4-5 mixed-age students. The teaching fellow should be capable of teaching the full range of
subjects from language arts to mathematics. The teacher will be supported for 15 hours a week
by an experienced teacher and generally by the faculty-parents of the microschool students.

What is the context

Founded in 1982 the United World College-USA is one of 18 United World College (UWC)
campuses worldwide and the only campus in the United States. The UWC movement seeks to
make education a force to unite people nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable
future. As such UWC-USA values and promotes all manner of inclusion diversity equity and
access as part of our fundamental mission to bring people together across differences in service
of a more peaceful and sustainable world.

For the first time in 2025-2026 UWC-USA will offer a microschool or homeschool pod for a
small group of employee children. As of writing there will be four children of teaching faculty
entering 5th 6th and 7th grade.

Who should apply

Qualifications - ideal candidates will demonstrate a combination of the following qualities:

  • Strong identification with the vision mission and values of UWC-USA and ability to
    articulate and translate them in strategic and day to day implementation of programs
    Proven experience as someone capable of a dynamic innovative student-centered
    facilitator of learning
    University coursework and/or professional experience on elementary and/or middle-
    years education
    Experience with the relevant age group of students (10-12 years old)
    Experience living outside your home country
    Knowledge of instructional strategies used in the enhancement of curricular programs
    ideally including place-based learning and expeditionary learning
    Commitment to learning and modeling personal communal and environmental
    sustainability
    Ability to use good judgment in establishing priorities and assessing and engaging
    difficult situations
    Exemplary discretion and confidentiality
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Required Education

Bachelors degree

Note: We are not able to support sponsorship for a J-1 visa but can employ applicants whose
OPT is valid through the end of May 2026.
