Job Description
ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ. All applicants must be professing Christians and willing to support the Christian mission and purpose of Abilene Christian University while employed by the University.
- Works as directed by the immediate supervisor and/or the Director of Landscape & Grounds.
- Lead your team in maintaining the landscape & grounds in your zone in an effort to enhance the beauty of ACU.
- Assist other trades and grounds personnel as needed in the spirit of cooperation and teamwork.
- Continue to develop and cross-train in a manner that will keep personnel up-to-date and safe.
A. Works as directed by the immediate supervisor and/or the Director of Landscape & Grounds.
- Follow established rules policies and procedures of the Landscape & Grounds Department and ACU.
- Order materials and supplies as needed for the completion of work orders.
- Fill out work orders and written reports daily.
- Display necessary work initiative to work alone or in groups.
- Supervise employees & student workers that are assigned to your areas
B. Assist Landscape & Grounds Manager with the installation of new landscapes & seasonal color asneeded.
- Mow weed eat and edge grass areas.
- Maintain beds and flowering landscape areas to enhance the beauty of the campus.
- Empty trash in your area daily or as needed.
- Keep hardscapes clean and free of debris.
- Display initiative to work by ones self or in groups.
C. Assist other trades and grounds personnel as needed in the spirit of cooperation and teamwork.
- Be on call 24 hours for inclement weather events and be able to come in early to spread ice melt.
- Help maintain an aggressive fertilizer program that will enhance the beauty of the campus.
- Clean up and remove trash on campus.
- Understanding of basic irrigation operations.
D. Continue to develop and cross-train in a manner that will keep personnel up-to-date and safe.
- Attend ACU approved work related training sessions
- Clean and maintain equipment to extend the life of the equipment and maintain the resources of the University.
- Perform work in a safe manner.
A. Skill Required
- Knowledge of hand and power tools
- Skilled in all areas of landscaping turf maintenance interior plants weed control and fertilization
- Operate small equipment such as mower weed-eater blower edger trimmer and rotary tiller.
B. Training Module
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Must have basic safety training
- Emphasize excellent customer relations and service
A. Professional
- High school diploma or GED and five (5) years of hands-on experience with landscape grass & interior plant materials
- Or an associate degree in horticulture
B. Personal
- Successful candidates must be honest trustworthy dependable responsible punctual and have a good moral character and work ethic.
- Must submit to post offer pre-employment physical examination/medical history check.
- A valid Texas drivers license is required for this job.
- Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Must be neat & clean in appearance at all times.
- Good health and stamina to lift carry and pull loads over fifty (50) pounds.
- Must be able to climb a ladder.
- Must be able to work in extreme heat/cold weather conditions.
