QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelors Degree Required; preferred degree in communication arts journalism public relations or related field
2. Preferred five-year minimum experience in journalism public relations or related field
3. Demonstrates effective use of social media platforms public speaking and proficient writing skills.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent or designee
JOB GOAL: To plan develop and implement strategic communications relative to the districts Public Information Plan; advise and manage effective media community and public relations; maintain appropriate messaging and graphics standards; facilitate a variety of public information and community relations activities events and projects; to serve as the communication specialist for the superintendent and the school board
To organize or direct as designated by the immediate supervisor all activities related to the operation and maintenance of the assigned office area
TERM: Twelve Months
SALARY: Non-Certified Salary Schedule SB-125
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. To develop and implement the districts public information plan to include a district-wide
strategy to effectively communicate with all stakeholders.
II. To coordinate effective communication tools including brochures newsletters social
media and other forms of written and online material.
III. To establish and maintain positive relationships with employees parents media contacts
and community members.
IV. To provide information to the news media and develop press releases arrange and
conduct interviews and conferences for the media.
V. To organize and attend promotional events such as press conferences school board
meetings special events and school-based activities.
VI. To serve as the districts spokesperson monitor day-to-day media coverage identify and
promote positive stories.
VII. To act as a liaison in gathering and sharing factual information with the media and public
at large.
VIII. Provides for the provision of greeting and assisting visitors handling phone calls and
inquiries scheduling and maintaining calendars and travel arrangements screening
analyzing and preparing responses to incoming correspondence handling day-to-day
public relations and problem solving provision of word processing support
electronic memos; database management skills
IX. Oversees and administers the day-to-day activities of the assistant superintendents office while maintaining strict confidentiality.
X. Provides assistance and support to the assistant superintendent board members
principals and central office staff in problem solving project planning and
management and development and execution of stated goals and objectives
XI. Serves as a primary point of direct administrative contact and liaison with other
offices individuals and external institutions and agencies on a range of specified
issues; organizes and facilitates meetings conferences and other special events as
required
XII. Handles the disposition and/or resolution of individual problems involving faculty
staff students parents and/or members of the general public as they arise
XIII. To follow federal state and local policies and procedures
XIV. To use language that is void of vulgarity lewdness coarseness or profanity
XV. To observe all policies and regulations as outlined in the Drug Free Workplace Act
XVI. To be in attendance and on time at work except for personal illness or emergency as
defined by the policies of the Rapides Parish School Board
XVII. To be loyal to the administration of the school system
XVIII. To be professionally dressed and well-groomed
