Job DescriptionThe duties of an Intramural Flag Football Official include:
80% Officiating Intramural Flag Football games
- Participant check-in
- Pre-game captains meeting
- Participant safety provided through the unbiased administration of rules decisions based on training for that particular sport
10% Documentation of Intramural Flag Football games
- Verification of final score of all games worked on each completed score sheet
- Assigning an appropriate Sportsmanship Rating to each team following each game
5% Field set up
5% Other duties as assigned

Work ScheduleAn Intramural Flag Football Official has the flexibility to set their availability to be assigned shifts during the following work hours:
Sundays from 4:00p 10:45p
Wednesdays from 5:00p 10:45p
Tuesdays from 5:00p 10:45p

Required QualificationsAn applicant for the position of an Intramural Flag Football Official must have:
- Work history that required being moderately physically active for hours at a time (maximum of four hours at a time)
- A baseline knowledge of the sport of flag football or football
- Current NFHS Concussion In Sports Certification or willingness to obtain within the first month of employment
Preferred QualificationsThe preferred applicant for the position of an Intramural Flag Football Official will have:
- Previous officiating or sports participation experience
- A willingness to learn as demonstrated in theapplication materials
- A professional and cooperative demeanoras demonstrated in theapplication materials
Position OverviewRecreation Services and the Intramural Sports program are seeking students to join our team as an Intramural Flag Football Official for the fall 2025 Flag Football season. The Intramural Flag Football Official is responsible for providing an atmosphere of fun in a competitive yet safe environment. Officials must be able to implement Intramural Sports policies and sport specific rules in order to maintain an appropriate level of control fairness and safety. Officials should maintain a positive attitude on-site and should always be striving to improve their officiating skills.
No prior officiating experience is needed. All training will be provided by student Supervisors prior to beginning work.
Participation in Intramural Sports by officials is encouraged!
A wide variety of skills are developed by Intramural Sports umpires which include but are not limited to:

- Teamwork
This is a seasonal position (Tuesday September 9 through Wednesday November 14) with the opportunity to also officiate volleyball and basketball later in the fall semester.
Additional Candidate InstructionA complete application consists of an online application. Review of this position occurs regularly through Tuesday September 2.
Qualified applicants must have:
- Completed onboarding and be approved to begin work by Tuesday September 9.
- Availability to work on Sundays as evidenced in application material.
- Availability to be present and engaged at all three dates of the paid Intramural Flag Football Officials Training:
- Tuesday September 9 from 5:00p 8:00p; and
- Wednesday September 10 from 6:30p 8:30p; and
- Thursday September 11 from 5:30p 7:30p
Position RequirementsDuring the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
Employment Conditions(1) Student employees are
not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
