Position: Elementary Literacy Coach
Purpose:To increase student achievement in literacy as measured by IREAD-3 and support the development of knowledge and skill of reading instruction for teachers
Performance Responsibilities:
- Guide teachers in the learning and implementation of best practices in responsive culturally relevant literacy instruction including (but not limited to) foundational skills in reading targeted small group instruction read aloud and shared reading integration of content knowledge writing instruction sheltered instruction and formative assessment. Build knowledge of the Science of Reading and integrate findings from this research into district school and classroom-based practices. Expose ineffective and inequitable practices and lead teams in transitioning to more effective research-based practices. Create conditions that provide feedback to teachers and stimulate actionable response to student learning and need.
- Participate in classroom-based partnership with teachers for the implementation of instructional practices including co-planning co-teaching co-assessing and student-centered coaching cycles that lead to increased student learning and achievement.
- Facilitate analysis of literacy data at the classroom school and district level to inform instruction and decision-making. Support the design of responsive instruction based on data analysis (state level assessments and local assessments).
- Create and coordinate leadership development opportunities for teachers to support school-based curriculum and assessment work that will impact instruction student learning and greater equity of access for all students.
- Develop and lead a variety of professional development opportunities for individual teachers departments or grade level groups or entire staffs.
- Collaborate with administrators to design plans for professional learning that measure the impact on both teacher and student learning are responsive to teachers needs and aligned to district and school improvement initiatives.
- Evaluate professional learning through monitoring measurable outcomes of teacher learning and implementation linked to school- and district goals as well as the impact on student learning.
8.Incorporate and support teachers in integrating digital tools into instructional practice in literacy and across content areas.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and collaboration.
- Keep a log of daily activities to reflect work with students and teachers as well as other reports as required.
- Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned.
Required:
- At least 3 years of teaching experience
- Current literacy endorsement
- Ability to attend required IDOE training during thesummer
- Ability to work collaboratively and proactively with teachers administrators other coaches and paraprofessionals
- Willingness to work toward continuous improvement in literacy instruction across a wide variety of contexts
- Willingness to participate in advanced learning and collaboration that may extend beyond the school day
Preferred Qualifications:
- Successful teaching experience in grades K-3
- Participation in district curriculum development and professional learning opportunities in literacy
- Experience teaching reading to multilingual learners and/or exceptional learners
- Previous leadership responsibilities at the school or district level
