Job Description

Colorado Academy seeks a dynamic collaborative and experienced Technical Theater Director & Instructor to lead and teach technical theater in both Middle School and Upper School divisions. The ideal candidate is passionate about theater production committed to student-centered learning and eager to cultivate curiosity kindness courage and a spirit of adventure through the performing arts.


This role includes full technical direction for theater productions AV support for daytime school-wide meetings and events serving as House Manager for the Leach Center for Performing Arts and teaching technical theater classes in both divisions. This position reports directly to the Director of Visual and Performing Arts.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as Technical Director for all Middle School and Upper School theater and dance productions.
  • Serve as Technical Director of Lower School grade level music performances in LCPA
  • Design and/or oversee the execution of all technical elements including lighting sound scenic props projections and stage management.
  • Provide AV support for community meetings assemblies and special school events across divisions.
  • Maintain all theater equipment and technical systems within the Leach Center for Performing Arts.
  • Act as House Manager for the Leach Center ensuring events are welcoming professional and run smoothly.
  • Teach Upper School Technical Theater and Middle School Technical Theater classes with a focus on safety collaboration creativity and leadership.
  • Guide and mentor student tech crews in developing technical skills and backstage etiquette.
  • Collaborate with students faculty and guest artists on all aspects of production and performance logistics.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors and professionals when needed.
  • Attend departmental meetings and contribute to school-wide arts initiatives.
  • Uphold the schools mission in all aspects of teaching and production work.
  • Participate in MS Interim
  • Promote a safe inclusive and respectful environment for all students.
Requirements
  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in technical theater and/or teaching in a school or professional setting.
  • Proficiency in lighting sound set construction rigging projections and stage management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage production schedules student crews and technical budgets.
  • Knowledge of current industry-standard tools: lighting consoles sound boards QLab etc.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students colleagues and families.
  • Commitment to diversity equity and inclusion in the classroom and production environment.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends for rehearsals and performances as required.
  • First Aid/CPR certification

The pay for this position is $63200 - $113900. Although this is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting Colorado Academy reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. Any wage differential that may exist for the position does not relate to sex gender or gender identity but relates solely to a seniority system a merit system or relevant education training and/or experience. Medical Dental Vision and Life Insurance benefit programs are available as is a 403(b) retirement plan. Eligibility for all benefit programs is defined by the applicable plan document.
