Overview

The Interdisciplinary Feeding and Swallowing Program at Childrens Mercy is a specialty clinic where you can see several different types of health care providers in one place. The team then works together to help find solutions to our patients feeding concerns.

The Nursing Program Coordinator manages and develops programs and services for specialty area. Coordinates and supervises the care of these patients in both inpatient and ambulatory settings. Provides direct patient care and serves as a clinical expert for the education and consultation needs of the healthcare team. Acts as a liaison between patients families and others in the health care team to ensure patients needs are met. Facilitates clinical care to improve the quality of the outcome for the patient while considering the individual needs of the patient. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to guide clinical decisions. Implements evidence-based nursing interventions that promote positive outcomes. Partners with internal and external providers/clinics and healthcare agencies to develop strategies to establish and maintain effective relationships to promote optimal patient outcomes.

The nursing program coordinator will work with multi-disciplinary teams to help treat feeding difficulties that can be associated with many different health conditions including:

  • Anatomical abnormalities
  • Cardiac and pulmonary disorders
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Developmental delays
  • Difficult meal-time behaviors
  • Dysphagia (difficulties with chewing and/or swallowing)
  • Failure to thrive
  • Genetic disorders
  • Pain or discomfort with feeding
  • Sensory issues/autism

New employees must be willing to be vaccinated if found non-immune to measles mumps rubella (MMR) and chicken pox (varicella) and/or without evidence of tetanus diphtheria acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination since 2005. If you are selected for this position you will be asked to supply your immunization records as proof of vaccination. If you and have any concerns about receiving these vaccines medical and/or religious exemptions can be further discussed with Human Resources.

Responsibilities

  • Meets the educational needs of patient/family utilizing principles of teaching/learning.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for the education and consultation needs of the health care team.
  • Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree Required and
    • 3-5 years experience pediatric nursing experience
  • Masters Degree Preferred
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - Kansas Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - MO Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire
  • RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
  • Specialty Certification relevant to units patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred
