Job Summary:
Under general supervision the Database Administrator 3 is responsible for assisting in the design implementation and revision of data structures and database systems in accordance with defined standards and procedures. This role supports other database administrators and development teams by contributing to database design ensuring system efficiency and helping to maintain optimal performance across database environments.
Distinguishing Features:
This role is designed for experienced database professionals who are capable of performing intermediate-level database administrative tasks while supporting more senior DBAs. The position involves implementation and revision work technical assistance to development teams and direct involvement in daily database maintenance. It is flexibly staffed with entry-level database roles but distinguished by its greater focus on structured implementation and cross-functional support.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and revise physical data structures under supervision following defined standards and procedures
Build databases on appropriate platforms including creating cluster indexes setting schema and defining space parameters
Assist in reviewing and implementing database systems to ensure accuracy security and performance
Provide technical support to application developers by answering database-related queries and clarifying performance coding or security topics
Write procedures for database migration and ensure documentation aligns with organizational controls
Monitor application system performance with guidance; review usage patterns and system metrics to help identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies
Perform daily maintenance of production databases including job scheduling backup/recovery operations and performance tracking
Assist in the development and enforcement of database standards usage guidelines and operational policies
Participate in the review of user activity system usage and application requirements to help shape operational best practices
Support database software evaluation and implementation activities; test new tools gather user feedback and contribute to selection decisions
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in database administration or development
Familiarity with structured query languages (SQL PL/SQL or T-SQL)
Basic understanding of database design concepts and performance tuning
Experience with job scheduling backup and recovery tools in a production environment
Effective communication skills to support cross-functional collaboration
Strong documentation and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Associates or Bachelors degree in Information Systems Computer Science or a related field
Exposure to multiple database platforms (e.g. Oracle SQL Server MySQL PostgreSQL)
Knowledge of data security practices access controls and auditing
Ability to work independently and escalate appropriately when complex issues arise
