Summary
- Are you passionate about the arts and love helping others explore their creativity The City of Medfords Parks & Recreation Department is looking for a dynamic Youth/Adult Art Instructor to lead engaging hands-on art classes at the Santo Community Center. In this part-time year-round role youll design and deliver developmentally appropriate lessons that introduce students to a variety of artistic materials techniques and concepts.
Whether you specialize in painting mixed media or sculpture your creativity and teaching skills will help foster artisticgrowth and confidence in students of all ages.

Required Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
- Four (4) years of experience in recreational activities sports and/or childcare; experience must demonstrate responsibility and customer service.
- One (1) year of college level course work in recreation or childcare can substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
Available Schedule:Class schedules are based on instructor availability and facility space. Afternoon and evening classes are preferred with a preference for scheduling MondayThursday:
- Afternoon and evening availability is strongly preferred
- Most classes take place at the Santo Community Center
- Final schedule will be determined based on space availability and instructor flexibility
Compensation & Information on Benefits
The anticipated hiring range for theRecreation Specialistposition is $22.49(first step) to $23.62or $25.00(second or third step).The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education experience andqualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act.Threesteps are included in this salary range allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.
Compensation Update: Effective July 1 2025 this range will increase to $23.05 (first step) $24.21 (second step) and $25.50 (third step).
INCLUDED BENEFITS:- Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) retirement contributions paid by employer for part-time year-round positions.
- Paid sick leave - one (1) hour accrued for every 30 hours worked.

Examples of Job Duties
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Provides instruction and conducts classes/activities for program participants.
- Leads the operation of recreation/sports camps or other large programs.
- Maintains a high level of customer service.
- Communicates professionally with participants parents co-workers and the public.
- Keeps records and accounts of attendance inventory financial charges and receipts accidents and injuries.
- Receives and responds to questions and concerns from patrons; identifies issues and resolves problems or refers to supervisor when appropriate.
- Understands and communicates the sport event/league rules procedures and policies.
- Arrange activities excursions and event schedules.
- Assists with the creation of program-related promotional materials and distributes them when necessary.
- Ensures all appropriate safety precautions are observed during events and programs
- Demonstrates regular reliable and punctual attendance.
Other Functions of the Position:- Order supplies for recreational activities when needed.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
This position involves primarily indoor office work in a controlled environment requiring time spent sitting at a desk and using a computer. The typical noise level is moderate. Fieldwork which occurs periodically exposes the employee to varying weather conditions (rain heat cold) congested traffic areas and uneven terrain. Fieldwork may also include interacting with the public potentially at indoor and outdoor sporting events or with children (e.g. field trips) in diverse weather conditions.
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. This position requires extended periods of standing walking and sitting. Must be able to crouch bend stoop twist turn and balance. The employee regularly operates various office equipment including computers printers copy machines calculators and telephones. Good eyesight hearing balance and dexterity are required.Supplemental Information
