Unleash your potential and make an impact! The Department of Commerce Division of Workforce Solutionsiscurrently accepting applications for the Director of Veteran Employment Services in Raleigh.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) withState Benefits including health insurance as well as retirement.

The Division of Workforce Solutions (DWS) is seeking a strategic and experienced Veterans Employment Services Director to lead the administration and oversight of the Jobs for Veterans State Grants (JVSG) program. This leadership position is responsible for the functional and technical management of veteran-focused employment and training initiatives across North Carolina ensuring alignment with federal requirements and state-level priorities.

The Veterans Employment Services Director will serve as the primary liaison with NCWorks Career Center staff and other stakeholders ensuring veterans receive high-quality priority employment services. The role requires strong data analysis skills to interpret national and state labor trends impacting veterans as well as the ability to manage federal grant funds effectively and compliantly.

To qualify for this position applicants must document on the application that they possessALLof the following:

  1. Knowledge of the principles and practices of public and business administration with an emphasis on veteran services and employment programs.
  2. Considerable knowledge of the economic social and technological trends influencing workforce needs across various regions of the state.
  3. Experience in program development performance evaluation and data-driven decision-making.
  4. Demonstrated ability to plan coordinate and manage a statewide program effectively.
  5. Ability to analyze complex situations and implement appropriate solutions.
  6. Ability to coordinate the work of professional and technical staff (as applicable).
  7. Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to present information clearly and persuasively to large groups and diverse stakeholders.

Necessary Special Requirement:
Related public contact work dealing with veterans or job applicants and employers in a variety of functions. Title 38 United States Code (38 U.S.C.) Section 4103A requires that employees in this class be honorably discharged veterans who have served a minimum of 180 days on active duty in the Armed Forces or were discharged or relieved from active duty because of service-connected disability. Chapter 41 of Title 38 continuesPreference shall be accorded in the following order:
  1. To qualified service-connected disabled veterans.
  2. If no veteran described in paragraph (1) is available to qualified eligible veterans.
  3. If no veteran described in paragraph (1) or (2) is available then to qualified eligible persons.

Candidates will be required to verify they meet Federal Armed Forces service requirements associated with this position by providing a Form DD-214 prior to receiving an offer of employment. Candidates are encouraged to attach the Form DD-214 to the application.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelors degree from an appropriately accredited institution; and five (5) years of progressively responsible program experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
