JOB TITLE: Dockhand (Linesperson) (Posting 2025-17)

LOCATION: Leamington (Mainland Terminal)

POSTING CLOSES: June 16 2025 at 4:00 PM EST

START DATE: June 20 2025

TYPE: Full Time Contract

REPORTS TO: Shoreside Facilities Supervisor

UNION: Unifor 444 Unit 1

SALARY: $22.38 per hour

The Dockhand also known as a Linesperson plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and smooth operation of the terminal and shoreside operations. The Dockhand performs general maintenance and related work as assigned on buildings terminal property ramps and docks.

Duties include traffic management passenger assistance vessel mooring equipment operation and maintenance freight handling landscaping building sanitation and maintenance operating vehicle transfer bridges and assisting passengers boarding and departing the vessel.

Successful candidates are experienced working in a busy safety-sensitive environment are effectively working as part of a team are physically fit and are available able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The primary job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintaining safe and clean access to and from the vessel for passengers and vehicles to the terminal and property.
  • General maintenance tasks to the terminal equipment and grounds.
  • Maintaining strict compliance with all safety regulations regarding procedures and equipment as outlined in company policies and procedures.
  • Receive traffic and measure when necessary for vessel capacity
  • Marshaling vehicles in loading and standby zones as instructed by the Ticket Agent.
  • Assisting and directing passengers during loading and unloading including those who may require extra assistance as directed.
  • Securing and casting off the vessel as directed.
  • Raising and lowering the vehicle transfer bridge as directed.
  • Perform daily weekly or monthly checks of the terminal or equipment as directed and document/report any findings.
  • Perform lawn and landscaping maintenance.
  • Participate in all drills emergency response plan duties and oil response duties as directed.
  • Connect hoses and operate equipment to transfer liquid and waste materials.
  • Report unsafe conditions or environmental hazards.
  • Other duties as directed


QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION KNOWLEDGE WORK EXPERIENCE and SKILLS

  • Must qualify and maintain a valid forklift certificate.
  • Qualify and maintain Aerial Lift Certification.
  • Complete Working from Heights Certification.
  • Safe Food Handling Course.
  • Complete and maintain the Basic First Aid Course is preferred.
  • Oil Spill Response
  • WHMIS
  • Complete Fire Extinguisher Safety.
  • Have a Valid G Drivers Licence.
  • Have a Valid Pleasure Craft Operators Licence


REQUIREMENTS

  • Lift and pack merchandise up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to see 100 with good depth perception for catching heavy rope lines.
  • Pull heavy cables up to 50 feet.
  • Stand consistently for 2 hours.
  • Walk long distances (500 meters)
  • Able to climb a flight of stairs.
  • Ability to climb a 12 ladder.
  • Able to read 10 pt font on manifests.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to hear and respond on two-way radios.
  • Ability to communicate in person and over the phone.
  • Ability to read printed materials and a computer screen.
  • Able to work weekends.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Able to work overtime as required.


SAFETY SENSITIVE ENVIRONMENT

  • Zero tolerance for drugs or alcohol
  • Personal Protective Equipment (boots eye and ear protective wear)
