Access Health and Community (AccessHC) is a leading not-for-profit healthcare provider with over 150 years of experience delivering inclusive person-centered care across Melbournes inner and outer east and northeast. The opportunity

We are inviting expressions of interest for a values-driven Board Director to join our Board who is committed to enhancing community health and wellbeing. This key appointment includes membership on our Audit and Risk Committee offering a unique opportunity to help shape the strategic direction financial sustainability and risk oversight of AccessHC.

We are seeking a seasoned professional with a strong sense of purpose and a commitment to social impact. The ideal candidate will bring a blend of commercial and governance expertise and proven financial literacy. They will also have the ability to interpret complex financial information experience in risk management oversight and strategic direction and the capacity to contribute to informed transparent decision-making.

In addition to technical skills we value purpose-led leadership. You will be a collaborative engaged Board contributor who is assured in constructively challenging ideas and who communicates with influence to support robust discussions and effective governance. You will also have some understanding of the constraints and opportunities facing non-profit organisations and be able to pragmatically tailor your input to fit our growing organisation. Familiarity with stakeholder engagement and strategic advocacy will be highly regarded.

Key expertise:

  • Board-level or executive leadership experience in directing and overseeing finance and risk governance
  • Financial expertise and formal qualifications (CA/CPA)
  • Strategic thinking with an ability to assess and respond to organisational risk
  • Strengths in communication and collaboration
  • Governance qualifications (e.g. AICD) and/or relevant lived experience aligned with our mission
  • Experience in engaging with auditors regulators and diverse stakeholders
  • Clinical governance experience and knowledge preferably gained in a community service primary or tertiary health

Board meeting commitments:

  • The Board meets at least six times annually (5.30pm - 8.00pm)
  • 2 days off site Board strategy meeting scheduled in March 2026
  • Directors are expected to review materials in advance and actively contribute to meetings
  • Meeting schedules and annual work plans are developed in consultation with the Directors

Audit & Risk Committee meeting commitments:

  • The Committee meets at least five times per year. The meetings are held online
  • Members are expected to review materials in advance and actively contribute to meetings
  • Meeting schedules and annual work plans are developed in consultation with the Committee Members

Selection Process

The recruitment process will be conducted by the Board Chair and Audit & Risk Committee in line with the Access Health and Community Board & Committee Procedures.

  • Applicants will be assessed on expertise and experience in a merit-based selection free from affiliations
  • Suitability will be confirmed through third-party verifications
  • Successful candidates will be appointed for a 2-year appointment with a maximum term of 9 years
