EIPS invites applicants for the positions of Specialized Supports Consultant Supports for Students (SFS). Reporting to the Director of Specialized Supports Supports for Students the consultant will provide support to EIPS teachers students and families.
The position is open to internal and externalcandidatesand is a one year term which follows the school calendar. Internal candidates holding continuous contracts will return to their present position for the 2026-27 school year should they not continue in the consultant position.
Each year consultants are assigned to different areas of our Feeder School Framework. For the 2025/26 school year this consultant will support our Fort Saskatchewan Feeder Schools. This position works out of Trillium Centre (101 Crimson Drive Sherwood Park) however travel to all areas of Elk Island Public Schools will be required for this position.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Working as a member of the SFS team to provide coordinated services with a focus on building school and teacher capacity to provide instruction to students with diverse educational needs including supporting staff in meeting the needs of students with complex needs.
- Working alongside school teams to:
- implement best practices for students with diverse learning needs reflected in the programming priorities in their Instructional Support Plans (ISPs)
- implement best practices for students with diverse behavioural needs through a trauma informed lens
- implement best practices for students with various developmental disorders (e.g. Autism Spectrum Disorder) focused on engagement learning social communication and emotional regulation
- provide modeling and coaching for staff working with students with complex behavioural needs
- build counsellor capacity through collaboration and support
- provide advice and support to parents of children with diverse educational needs.
- Providing in-class modeling coaching and feedback that supports the integration of:
- modeling and coaching best practice for students with complex behavioural needs
- relational-based practices for students with diverse educational needs
- best practices related to inclusive differentiated instruction
- best practices to support student engagement learning social communication and emotional regulation
- planning delivering and facilitating professional development
- working as a member of the Supports for Students team in supporting EIPS and Alberta Education requirements policies and legislation
- Collaborating with other EIPS departments such as Instructional Supports Student Transportation and Human Resources to ensure students needs are met effectively
- Collaborating with community partners such as Alberta Health Services Addiction and Mental Health Family and Community Services Childrens Services
- Supporting school staff students and parents through participation as a member of the EIPS Violence Threat Risk Assessment and Crisis Response Teams
This position will require travel to all areas of EIPS.
Education and Experience
- Alberta Permanent Teaching Certificate
- Minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience
- Extensive experience and knowledge of programming for students with diverse educational needs in ways that are both trauma-informed and relationally-based
Knowledge Skills and Attitudes
- Strong independent worker capable of managing many roles and demands
- Thorough understanding of Alberta Education and EIPS guidelines procedures and processes related to supporting all students
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in a variety of technological platforms
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others to support integrated service delivery
