DEQ has an open opportunity for an Environmental Program Consultant - Emerging Compounds Coordinator.
It is full-time (40 hours per week) withState Benefits.This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remoteworkdays. TheNC Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be self-motivatedand successful inhybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change atthe discretion of management.
The Emerging Compounds Coordinator will serve as the divisions point of contact for engaging with other Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) divisions to coordinate actions needed to implement DEQs Emerging Compounds Framework for assessing and reducing emerging compounds in the environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform advanced scientific and/or project management for emerging compound management programs and/or serve as a technical expert for the emerging compound program
Communicate with programs and staff that are engaged in sampling and analysis data management permitting and other activities to address emerging compounds and keep DWR leadership informed of key activities and milestones.
- Gather data from DWR emerging compound programs and present to management the status of the programs their findings and next steps.
- Coordinate meetings for DWRs Emerging Compounds Workgroup on a quarterly basis or as needed/requested. Provide to management the action items agreed upon and meeting summaries.
- Consult with staff in DWR and other DEQ divisions as necessary to identify possible sources of emerging compounds that may impact North Carolinas natural resources.
- Perform advanced scientific and/or project management for emerging compound management programs and/or serve as a technical expert for emerging compound related programs.
- Track emerging compounds criteria/standards adopted by EPA and other states and keep up on new regulatory approaches taken to address emerging compounds.
The Division of Water Resources:TheDivision of Water Resources is responsible for protecting North Carolinas drinking surface and groundwater for all waterbodies including lakes streams rivers wetlands and aquifers. This environmental stewardship is accomplished through actions including permitting issuance investigations regulatory compliance and enforcement monitoring and field assessments certifications laboratory analysis and testing planning water quality standards management educational outreach and other efforts. The Division comprises five Sections: Water Quality Regional Operations; Water Sciences; Public Water Supply; Water Quality Permitting; and Water Planning. To qualify for this position applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

Masters degree in one of the agricultural biological engineering environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Supplemental and Contact Information
