Job Description

The Automation Engineer II works closely with more experienced engineers and assists in the development of drawings documents and other deliverables to develop automation systems to support manufacturing processes equipment critical systems and facility infrastructure. This individual is expected to execute work on one or more intermediate-level tasks simultaneously as delegated by the Lead and/or Sr. Engineer. This individual may also delegate some basic and fundamental tasks to Entry-Level and Design staff. They are developing and expanding their ability to coordinate effectively with other disciplines delegate interact with clients and manage scopes of work and drawings and other deliverables. This role will have the ability to successfully execute and lead (on small projects) all phases of design including initial programming planning feasibility scope and concept development detailed design construction documentation and construction administration or hold primary responsibility for one or more of them on a large project. The Individual will expand their knowledge and skill sets to include design and specifications of more complex control systems using multiple controllers and expanded workstations and server infrastructure.

  • Works under the direction and guidance of a more experienced Engineer to execute design responsibilities.
  • Designs automation systems of basic complexity in conformance with code requirements and in coordination with other design disciplines.
  • Works closely with other architects engineers and designers as well as other internal and external team members to ensure a coordinated constructible and complete design.
  • Performs sizing calculations for control elements instrumentation/device selections and other engineering calculations of basic complexity as required to confirm project requirements are met.
  • Develops automation systems documentation in the form of narratives reports drawings and diagrams to be used for construction of basic complexity.
  • Utilizes various platforms to execute work such as Microsoft Office products available BIM software and instrumentation and automation vendor platforms.
  • Attends professional development activities.
  • Conducts basic field investigations to integrate the design with existing systems and structures.
  • May work on one or more projects simultaneously as directed by a Supervisor.

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications  

  • ABET-accredited Bachelors degree in discipline-specific field of study (ChemE ME or EE)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience preferably in a design firm setting

Additional Qualifications 

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Fundamentals of Engineering exam registration or completion
  • Basic experience with performing instrumentation and controls engineering calculations and developing and implementing instrumentation and control system design
  • Basic experience with implementing fundamental design aspects of control system schematics panel fabrication drawings and field wiring plans design
  • Basic experience reading and interpreting Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Basic experience with the electrical code
  • Basic experience with other applicable industry standards
  • Basic experience with applicable building codes
  • Proficient with basic internal and external cross-discipline project team coordination
  • Proficient with basic coordination with construction trade partners vendors and manufacturers
  • Proficient at basic design calculations under supervision of a Lead or Senior Engineer

The pay range for Pennsylvania is $83000 - $110000/yr based on experience
