The Safety Technician plays a crucial role in promoting and advancing a strong safety culture at Action Traffic Maintenance Inc. This position focuses on supporting the health and safety of field crews working in highway construction zones. This role involves assessing environmental and physical conditions including those related to traffic exposure heavy equipment and roadway hazards. It also helps identify potential safety hazards or shortcomings in safety engineering methods operational execution or administrative processes.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Conduct regular site safety inspections ensuring compliance with federal state and company safety regulations and identifying and mitigating potential hazards in work zones.
Assist in developing and implementing safety procedures training team members on safe work practices and monitoring daily operations for adherence to safety standards.
Aid in identifying potential safety hazards and/or shortcomings of safety in engineering methods operational executions or administrative processes
The Safety Technician will also collaborate with supervisors foremen and project managers to reinforce safe behaviors investigate incidents and recommend corrective actions.
Address immediate safety concerns at Action Traffic including areas such as Injuries accidents near misses and MIOSHA visits.
Compile maintain and distribute Crew Safety Inspection Reports among division leaders as well as executive leadership. Quickly remedy safety hazards and dangerous activities as well as other deficiencies found on site as safely as possible.
Aid in the development and completion of action items needed to address any outstanding deficiencies found in safety inspections.
Track all inspections and data through company safety tracking software KPA. Perform Toolbox Talks during inspections and enforce proper PPE usage in all interactions with team members.
To be available to assist in the mediation and resolution of MIOSHA investigations citations and/or violations.
Assist in maintaining the safety of our Fleet operations including but not limited to FMCSA Hours of service regulations MIOSHA and DOT Compliance Load securement Driver observed Pre/Post Trip Inspections Outrigger Safety Operator manuals Load charts Annual Inspections Crane Inspections etc.
Assist in the return-to-work process including but not limited to ensuring we have the proper return-to-work paperwork and work with division leaders to provide a placement that we can safely accommodate taking into account applicable restrictions.
Assist in developing various new hire safety and ongoing safety training programs within the organization. Actively research and update information as regulations or organizational needs change.
Actively participate in various trade association events meetings and conferences to keep up to date on safety news training rulings and new best practices within the industry. Additionally participate in internal meetings with various professionals to review insurance claims and assess risks during job site visits.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand sit walk climb use hands and fingers talk hear view and create written documents. The employee uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb ladders or uneven terrain. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms such as operating and
repairing vibrating machinery using wrenches and hand tools and operating motorized equipment and vehicles. Ability to work and make decisions in a high-stress environment and be able to communicate effectively. The employee must lift or push/pull objects up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
While performing the duties of this job the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles toxic or caustic chemicals and the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
