The Microfabrication Laboratory within the Division of Engineering (DOE) at Mayo Clinic uses advanced microfabrication technologies to create customized medical devices. These devices provide physicians with innovative tools for research and patient care. Specializing in microscale devices such as thin film electrodes microfluidic devices and 3D printed microdevices the laboratory supports a wide range of medical and research applications. By collaborating closely with Mayo Clinic researchers and clinicians the laboratory advances healthcare technology through integrated design fabrication and testing. Utilizing both established and novel materials and processes the Microfabrication Laboratory is dedicated to transforming healthcare by developing breakthrough technologies in a collaborative environment.
The Microfabrication Laboratory in Rochester Minnesota seeks a highly qualified technician to assist with equipment installation daily and periodic maintenance and fabrication of medical microdevices. Project work is constantly changing depending on active projects and needs of the lab providing exposure to a variety of device types applications and clinical problems. The successful candidate will work in a team environment but with a degree of include running fabrication processes required for projects process development and building prototypes.
The ideal candidate will follow chemical handling and disposal procedures and lab safety protocols. They will update documentation and procedures for equipment and processes maintain lab supply inventory and perform routine maintenance on microfabrication equipment. Effective communication skills and familiarity with software updates are essential. The candidate must work in a cleanroom environment be detail-oriented creative and passionate and work both independently and as part of a team. Responsibilities include gathering and analyzing data reporting results identifying problems and offering solutions. They will support prototype medical device development by interpreting schematics and operating manuals and assist in coordinating builds for product and process development. Compliance with DOE document control processes and assisting in process development-related documentation are required.
This position is Limited Tenure. Limited Tenure (LT) means that if you are offered the position and accept it:
Associates degree with 3 years of relevant experience or Bachelors in Engineering Technology. Altium experience and skills with electrical board fabrication tools electrical tooling for fixture building are required. Will work with lab and machine shop environment working with small parts; 3 years of technician experience in medical devices preferred. PC skills are required (Word Excel Power Point etc.)
