The APP (APRN or PA) will perform surgeries in the OR providing patient care perioperatively and discharges post-operatively educating and counseling patients pre and postoperatively provide support in a clinical setting during patient appointments see patients alongside Surgeons and independently in clinic and facilitate patient surgical scheduling. The position will also provide correspondence relating to patient work status disability medical prognosis and prospective plans of treatment on both an inpatient and outpatient basis and review patient diagnostics and lab reports for sign off on patient surgical packets and in the clinical setting. The APP also examines and treats patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals. Ensures proper illness and injury care and disease prevention diagnosis treatment and recovery. May prescribe medications and order diagnostic tests. Advises patients about continuing care.

Performs and documents complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.
Functions independently to perform age-appropriate history and physical for patients.
Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patients age-specific needs.
Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities. Active DEA required.
Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain physiologic stability.
Assists with the provision of care in accordance with facility state and federal regulations.
Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.
Facilitates the patients transition within and between health care settings e.g. admitting transferring and discharging patients.
Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.
Facilitates staff patient and family decision making by providing educational tools.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Masters degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
Valid State of Florida APRN License OR valid State of Florida Physician Assistant License
Experience:
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
Knowledge Skills and Attitudes:
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to analyze organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Department Specific Functions
*Experience in Orthopaedics preferred.
Operative Experience preferred.
Participates as a member of a patient management team. Perform admission histories and physical exams.
Perform interim physical assessments of medical status (twice daily and as needed).
Provide patient education.
Participates in patient/family interventions. Respond to medical emergencies as necessary.
Perform medical procedures with or without direct physician supervision within the scope of the license / certification.
Conduct discharge planning.
Follow post-operative cases and order/monitor home-care post hospitalization.
Consult with patients and prospective patient/families by phone.
Evaluate/triageneed for care and advise regarding appropriate interventions including need for emergency treatment.
Consult with other professionals regarding decision-making in patient care as needed.
Act as liaison between the medical staff nursing staff patients and insurance companies.
Ensures the appropriate applications of critical pathways. Participate in decision-making with patients by providing information regarding pathophysiology and benefits/risks of treatment options.
Coordinate clinical trials including Human Subjects Committee communication consent forms and patient recruitment.
Coordinate data collection and patient activities (clinical follow-ups etc.) in clinical research.
Assist with nursing staff development.
Other duties as assigned.
