As we expand our focus into obesity and liver disease we are investing in an industry leading portfolio that will reshape how these conditions are managed and were looking for a Medical Affairs Lead (MAL) to play a pivotal role in that transformation.

This is a unique opportunity to join our team at a critical moment of innovation and impact. Youll lead medical strategy across early metabolic assets particularly in weight management and liver disease and our inline asset in hyperkalaemia building strong cross-functional collaborations and external partnerships that can genuinely change lives.

  • Drive the pre-launch and launch strategy for AstraZenecas next-generation obesity and liver disease portfolio preparing the UK business for future success.
  • Lead the UK medical strategy for Hyperkalaemia with oversight of Lokelma while mentoring and supporting the Hyperkalaemia Medical Affairs Manager (MAM).
  • Map the current UK landscape including clinical pathways expert networks and evidence gaps in obesity and liver cirrhosis management.
  • Shape future standards of care by seeing opportunities for pathway transformation and tangible clinical impact.
  • Build and maintain deep external relationships with key external experts (KEEs) academic leaders professional societies payers and patient advocacy groups.
  • Co-create and deliver education engagement and evidence-generation initiatives to support launch excellence.
  • Provide medical leadership to the field team (MSLs) guiding field strategy and execution to align with launch priorities and medical KPIs.
  • Represent the UK in Global and European Medical Affairs forums bringing local insight and strategy to global planning.
  • Ensure alignment with compliance ethical standards and the UK (QMS) SOPs.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Registered Physician (preferably GMC) or Pharmacist (General Pharmaceutical Council)
  • Strong experience in Medical Affairs ideally in a leadership capacity within the metabolic cardiovascular or obesity space
  • Expertise or interest in obesity and liver disease including knowledge of the current landscape treatment options and emerging science.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing strategy ideally including launch preparation and cross-functional leadership.
  • Excellent communication and external engagement skills able to build credibility with top-tier clinicians payers and advocacy leaders.
  • A strategic thinker with a clear sense of purpose clinical insight and customer-centricity.

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Member/Fellow of a Royal College or the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • Launch experience in CVRM and/or specialist care and/or acute care medicines
  • Detailed knowledge of the UK healthcare system
  • Proven expertise in the ABPI Code of Practice
  • Extensive patient and customer insight through experience of working with the NHS
  • It is highly desirable for the candidate to hold or successfully acquire Nominated Signatory status. You will be required to gain Nominated Signatory status within 6 months of commencing your role. You are also required to pass re-validation testing every 12 months or as requested.
