POSITION SUMMARY

The Occupational Therapist provides occupational therapy services to CHEO patients in homes schools and other areas as needed through conducting clinical assessments and developing treatment plans and goals in consultation with the patient family and other interdisciplinary team members in accordance with the standards of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.

The Occupational Therapist will support CHEOs School-Based Rehabilitation Services (SBRS) Program and in-home therapy services as needed. The Occupational Therapist may also provide some assessment and/or treatment for children from birth to age 18 in the Development & Rehabilitation department. These services may be provided virtually or at one of CHEOs locations across Eastern Ontario.

LOCATION: This position will primarily support special needs classrooms in Ottawa with additional responsibilities in a few schools in Eastern Counties

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Completes assessments of patients in a variety of treatment settings including private homes and schools and performs an analysis based on objective subjective and functional findings.
  • Establishes realistic measurable and time limited treatment goals and develops treatment plan.
  • Ensures that occupational therapy treatments are initiated with the informed consent of the patient or substitute decision maker in accordance with the Health Care Consent Act.
  • Provides direct treatment and/or support and teaching to informal caregivers school personnel and other health care professionals involved.
  • Participates in case conferences when required and consults with other members of the health care team in fostering a holistic approach to care.
  • Completes reassessments to review patients progress and treatment goals and reports to Care Coordinator and other members of the health care team in order to ensure continuity of care and determine if other resources and referrals are required.
  • Plans in collaboration with the patient family and Care Coordinator for the termination of service when patients goals are achieved and/or when patient no longer requires the service.
  • Completes assessments and recommendations for adaptation aids assistive devices and equipment necessary to achieve treatment goals respecting where appropriate the requirements of the Ontario Assistive Devices Program.
  • Completes documentation and maintains appropriate patient records in accordance with the standards of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario and CHEO policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a resource for CHEO employees service providers school personnel and community by providing educational programs as requested.
  • Attends and participates actively in team meetings and general staff meetings.
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining professional knowledge and updated skills.
  • Prioritizes occupational therapy services in accordance with the CHEO policy.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential)
  • Graduate from an accredited university program in Occupational Therapy (Essential)
  • Registered with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (C.O.T.O.) (Essential)
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience as an Occupational Therapist preferably in pediatrics (Essential)
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience with Special Education Programs (Essential)
  • Related experience in a community-based setting (Preferred)
  • Authorizer for the Assistive Devices Program of Ontario for the prescription of mobility devices (Essential)
  • Current CPR-C certificate (Preferred)
  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing (Essential)
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills (Essential)
  • Demonstrated ability to work inter-professionally (Essential)
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills (Essential)
  • Comfort level and skill in preparing and facilitating therapeutic groups (Essential)
  • Valid drivers license and access to a vehicle (Essential)
  • Bilingualism (English and French) (Essential)

RSUM DU POSTE

Lergothrapeute fournit des services dergothrapie aux patients de CHEO dans les foyers les coles et dautres secteurs au besoin en effectuant des valuations cliniques et en laborant des plans et des objectifs de traitement en consultation avec le patient la famille et dautres membres de lquipe interdisciplinaire conformment aux normes de lOrdre des ergothrapeutes de lOntario.

Lergothrapeute appuiera le programme de Services de radaptation en milieu scolaire (SRMS) de CHEO et les services de thrapie domicile au besoin. Lergothrapeute peut galement fournir une valuation et/ou un traitement pour les enfants de la naissance lge de 18ans dans les Services de dveloppement et de radaptation. Ces services peuvent tre offerts virtuellement ou lun des endroits de CHEO dans lest de lOntario.

LIEU: La personne titulaire de ce poste soutiendra principalement les classes dlves ayant des besoins Ottawa et assumera des responsabilits supplmentaires dans quelques coles des comts de lEst.
