Job Description

General Summary:

Diagnose manage and treat conditions and diseases of the pediatric eye and visual system. Examine eyes diagnose problems or impairments and prescribe corrective lenses.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Examine eyes using observation and instruments to determine visual acuity depth and color perception focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma strabismus or color blindness. These are then referred to the ophthalmologist.
  • Examine eyes using observation and instruments for routine eye examinations baseline eye examinations and failed school eye examinations.
  • Prescribe supply fit and adjust eyeglasses contact lenses and other vision aids.
  • Educate and counsel patients on lens care visual hygiene lighting arrangements and safety factors.
  • Consult with and refer patients to ophthalmologist if additional medical treatment is determined necessary.
  • Must be able to clearly explain eye care instructions to the patient and the patients family as well as answer questions.
  • Close all open patient encounters in a timely fashion.
  • Other job functions as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have a Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited optometry school and pass a written National Board exam and a clinical exam.
  • Must have or acquire State of Illinois license.
  • Experience in Pediatric Optometry preferred.
  • Computer Skills (EPIC).
  • Knowledge of Equipment such as retinoscope ophthalmoscope slit lamp etc.
  • Self-discipline and the ability to deal tactfully with patients their parents and team members.

Pay Range

$99840.00-$164736.00 Salary

The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position.
