Job Description

Description

Under the general direction of the Library Collections Manager performs a variety of tasks in the areas of receiving data entry processing circulation and distribution and assists with KDLs centralized MeLCat procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive and inspect new materials; verify accuracy and condition; coordinate with vendors regarding discrepancies damages and returns.
  • Attach new materials to the library database; perform copy cataloging using OCLC and MARC standards; assist with database maintenance.
  • Process new and donated materials for circulation including labeling tagging and jacket preparation; repair damaged items as needed.
  • Support MeLCat operations by processing interlibrary loan materials managing reports and notices and coordinating with branch staff and other libraries.
  • Check in materials for patron holds and route items to designated pickup locations.
  • Sort and distribute materials mail and deliveries to and from KDL branches.
  • Utilize the Automated Materials Handler to sort all outgoing interlibrary loan and new materials to the correct location.
  • Perform cleaning maintenance and basic troubleshooting of the Automated Materials Handler system.
  • Manage circulating technology items (e.g. hotspots iPads) including checking for suspensions checking them in sorting them into bags and preparing them for delivery.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain Beyond Books items including cleaning/resurfacing discs and handling A/V repair items.
  • Manage rotating display packets within the library catalog.
  • Communicate regularly with the Collection Development team to assign appropriate Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) tags BISAC categories and age-level cataloging.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • The job requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • One to two years of work experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs push/pull loaded carts and perform repetitive physical tasks such as bending reaching and standing for extended periods.

  • Proficiency with computers and databases.

  • Knowledge or aptitude to learn the MARC format OCLC and basic cataloging rules and practices.

  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.

  • Mathematical aptitude and analytical ability to accurately perform routine calculations.

  • Interpersonal and communication skills to provide and request general information from library staff vendors and others.

  • Visual acuity is needed to accurately read a computer screen and written materials.

  • Ability to travel between work locations and related places of business as needed.

Additional Information

  • KDL provides library services to our local communities seven days per week.
  • While this position is currently assigned to the above location KDL reserves the right to requireemployees to be available for assignments at any KDL location.
