Job Description

Your role at St John of God Berwick Hospital

An exciting opportunity presents to join the Maternity Leadership team at St John of God Berwick as the Maternity Unit Manager. Initially a 6-month period with the possibility to extend enabling a great introduction to an extraordinary team/organisation.

You will be responsible for leadership and management of the department/unit optimising patient safety quality of care and experience operational efficiency and contributing to the strategic objectives of the Directorate. Performing the role of Maternity Unit Manger involvessupporting and leading the team across antenatal intrapartum postnatal and special care nursery care.

The successful candidate will support the team clinically across all areas mentioned in addition to ensuring all administration expectations are achieved. The position leads the successful Joy maternity program which provides a private hospital maternity service in a collaborative team.

Working hours are 76 hours per fortnight Monday to Friday.

St John of God Berwick Maternity Unit welcomes 900-1000 babies into its care per annum with the values of excellence respect compassion hospitality and justice at the heart of all our care.

The Position:

  • Monitor standards of service and practice against benchmark targets including nurse sensitive indicators incident management system data clinical indicator results and patient doctor and caregiver satisfaction results. Where benchmarks are not met design implement and evaluate responses.

  • Support and participate in the ACHS accreditation process/regulatory assessments as well as group-wide and divisional Quality and Clinical Risk Management programs.

  • Foster a clinical culture of interdisciplinary collaboration to improve patient outcomes.

  • Ensure that patients and consumers are actively involved in relevant planning and decision-making processes.

  • Works in a clinical capacity within the department as required to support caregivers medical officers and to ensure the delivery of safe person-centred care.

  • Ongoing financial management and monitoring of the service cost centre including productivity activity and utilisation in line with budgetary parameters and performance targets.

  • Promotes and demonstrates a culture of innovation and improvement to enhance patient care and experience.

  • In consultation with Hospital Management Committee actively contributes to marketing the service to Medical Practitioners

  • Participates in the implementation and maintenance of a workforce model/model of care that enables quality of care to be maintained as well as implementing appropriate levels of workforce skills.

You will have a registration with Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife; you will demonstrate commitment to quality improvement including the ACHS EQuiP process and clinical risk management and proven ability to exercise sound judgement in clinical management and ethical issues.

To succeed you will have contemporary management and leadership experience in a Senior Nursing position in an Acute Hospital Facility. Recent Birth suite experience is preferable with RANZCOG FSEP level 3 practitioner in addition to management qualifications and/or Special Care Nursery experience.

We will offer you

  • Salary: $127128.44 per annum plus 11.5% superannuation.

  • Fixed term full time position available (from December 2025 to April 2026)
