Position Overview
The CTE (Career and Technical Education) Teacher provides students with rigorous and relevant instruction aligned to industry standards and designed to prepare them for both college and careers. This role includes developing and delivering curriculum in Family and Consumer Sciences mentoring students through FCCLA or similar programs and maintaining active engagement with local industry partners. The CTE Teacher also upholds all expectations of professional teaching including effective instructional strategies differentiation to meet individual student needs ongoing assessment practices and collaboration with colleagues and the school community to foster student achievement in a safe and positive learning environment.
Qualifications
- Must be CTE certified or eligible for CTE certification and obtain credentials within 2 years in the following areas:
- Child Development Personal Choices and Family Health
- Preferred V-Code:
- V200002 Family and Consumer Science
- Alternative V-Codes:
- V190707 Family and Community Services
- V200002 Family and Consumer Sciences (conditional)
- CTE coaching and mentoring experience required.
- Knowledge of FCCLA and/or SkillsUSA-equivalent student extracurricular programs.
- Must be First Aid and CPR certified.
- Demonstrated effective communication skills in English both oral and written.
- Positive collaborative and team-oriented attitude.
- Demonstrated leadership and student engagement abilities.
- Proficient in educational technology and digital instructional tools.
- Able to manage student behavior and maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.
- Ability to meet physical demands including sitting and standing for extended periods.
- ELL (English Language Learner) experience preferred.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Instructional Leadership
- Develop and implement engaging standards-aligned lessons focused on high expectations for student learning and achievement.
- Modify curriculum and differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Use relevant and creative teaching strategies including hands-on project-based learning.
- Stay current on best practices and content-area pedagogy.
- Provide students with clear learning targets structure and support in achieving objectives.
- Career and Technical Program Leadership
- Coordinate and supervise participation in FCCLA and/or SkillsUSA events and competitions.
- Maintain updated knowledge of industry trends local employer needs and CTE standards.
- Prepare students for careers through real-world applications simulations and exposure to industry expectations.
- Maintain accurate inventory of program supplies and equipment; ensure proper handling and safety in labs.
Student Engagement and Support
- Establish and maintain a positive inclusive classroom climate.
- Work one-on-one with students as needed to support skill development and growth.
- Monitor student behavior respectfully and enforce classroom school and district policies.
- Activate prior knowledge and scaffold learning as appropriate.
- Provide opportunities for student self-assessment and reflection.
- Professional and School Community Collaboration
- Maintain frequent effective communication with families regarding student progress.
- Participate actively in PLCs and collaborate with colleagues to analyze data and improve instruction.
- Coordinate and train paraeducators when necessary.
- Consult with counselors psychologists and other specialists to support students social-emotional and academic needs.
- Attend CTE professional development and maintain certification requirements.
- Program and Facility Management
- Keep learning environment clean organized and welcoming.
- Maintain safety protocols and report issues to the appropriate department promptly.
- Be available to transport students for field trips industry visits or competitions (as needed).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
