As we continue to grow and expand we are seeking to enhance our engineering team with a Senior Engineer QA/QC who is experienced in the heavy engineering fabrication sector and has a strong technical background in quality assurance and control processes.
Position Overview:
The Senior Engineer QA/QC will play a crucial role in ensuring the highest quality standards in all fabrication and manufacturing processes. With a deep understanding of Total Quality Management (TQM) and strong expertise in both QA and QC this individual will lead a small team to oversee all quality-related activities within the heavy engineering fabrication division. The role involves monitoring and verifying quality in fabrication operations developing quality standards and ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards. The ideal candidate will possess advanced qualifications in Mechanical Engineering a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in QA/QC and certification in ASNT NDT Level 2 or higher.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Quality Assurance & Control:
- Quality Monitoring: Develop and implement QA/QC plans to monitor and verify the quality of fabricated components ensuring compliance with project specifications international standards and customer requirements.
- Inspection and Testing: Oversee all inspections (visual dimensional welding and NDT) of raw materials in-process components and finished products to ensure they meet the required quality standards.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records and reports of all quality inspections tests audits and any non-conformance issues. Prepare and review documentation for customer approval and audits.
2. Team Leadership & Coordination:
- Team Management: Lead a team of 3-4 QA/QC inspectors providing direction mentorship and ensuring alignment with quality goals and objectives.
- Training and Development: Conduct regular training sessions for the QA/QC team to enhance their technical capabilities and knowledge of quality standards. Ensure the team is up to date on new quality procedures and regulations.
- Work Distribution: Assign tasks to QA/QC team members based on project priorities and complexity. Ensure optimal utilization of resources and time.
3. Total Quality Management (TQM) & Continuous Improvement:
- Process Improvement: Lead efforts to implement Total Quality Management (TQM) principles throughout the production process. Continuously identify areas for improvement in terms of quality efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Root Cause Analysis: Investigate the root causes of quality issues or product non-conformances. Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to mitigate recurrence.
- Performance Metrics: Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the QA/QC team. Regularly review performance data and suggest actions to improve processes.
4. NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) and Advanced Inspection:
- NDT Expertise: Oversee and carry out NDT activities (e.g. ultrasonic testing radiographic testing magnetic particle testing etc. to detect material defects and ensure structural integrity.
- NDT Certification: Ensure all NDT processes comply with industry standards. ASNT NDT Level 2 or higher certification will be required with responsibility for conducting or overseeing testing in alignment with established guidelines.
5. Standards Compliance & Reporting:
- Code Compliance: Ensure that all fabrication activities comply with relevant national and international standards (e.g. ASME ISO ASTM AWS etc. as well as customer-specific requirements.
- Audit Participation: Participate in both internal and external audits. Review audit findings and ensure effective implementation of corrective actions to close gaps in compliance.
- Customer Interaction: Liaise with customers regarding quality concerns conduct site inspections as required and provide feedback on the resolution of quality issues.
6. Vendor Quality Control:
- Supplier Quality: Evaluate and monitor the quality of materials and components supplied by external vendors. Conduct vendor assessments and inspections to ensure material and product quality aligns with company standards.
- Material Inspection: Inspect raw materials before fabrication begins to ensure they meet the necessary specifications. Coordinate with suppliers and procurement for non-conforming materials and suggest corrective actions.
7. Reporting and Documentation:
- Quality Reporting: Prepare and submit daily weekly and monthly quality reports to management highlighting critical quality issues inspection results and progress on corrective actions.
- Non-Conformance Management: Maintain and review non-conformance reports (NCRs). Follow up with the production and design teams to resolve quality-related issues promptly.
Qualifications:
Educational Background:
- Required: Bachelor s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BE/ in Mechanical) or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DME).
- Preferred: Master s Degree in Engineering or any additional certifications in Quality Management Welding Technology or Manufacturing Engineering.
Professional Experience:
- Required: A minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in QA/QC roles within the heavy engineering fabrication industry with a proven track record of leading quality initiatives.
- Preferred: Experience in handling large-scale fabrication projects heavy machinery and metalworking equipment. Knowledge of working in industries such as aerospace construction or power generation would be advantageous.
Certifications & Technical Skills:
- ASNT NDT Level 2 or Higher Certification (Ultrasonic Testing Radiographic Testing Magnetic Particle Testing etc. is mandatory.
- Strong understanding of Total Quality Management (TQM) and Quality Control (QC) methodologies such as Six Sigma Lean Manufacturing and 5S.
- Proficiency in QA/QC documentation systems and ERP/PLM software.
- Working knowledge of industry-specific quality standards (e.g. ASME ISO 9001 ISO 3834 ASTM etc..
- Familiarity with welding inspection techniques and understanding of welding procedures and codes (AWS ASME).
