The Role
Launceston Tasmanias second largest city is a designated UNESCO city of gastronomy and a gateway to the states famed wilderness areas. One of the countrys oldest settlements the city is the gateway to Tasmanias largest wine region the Tamar Valley.
We are looking for an accomplished Reporter to join our innovative Tasmanian news team based in Launceston. You will work across the ABCs digital and broadcast news platforms in collaboration with the local and state team and contribute to coverage for audiences in Tasmania and across the country.
Reporting to the Editor ABC Northern Tasmania you will:
- Create accurate concise and clear news contentacross audio video and online.
- Present news bulletins Q&As interviews and packages across all platforms including breaking stories.
- Deliver original high-impact stories to achieve strong reach and engagement with audiences.
- Contribute to the implementation of the Local Emergency Coverage plan

About You
You will be a proactive self-starter who is able to work effectively in a small team and embrace the brief to deliver agenda setting coverage that elevates Tasmanian stories across the ABC. Critical for this role is the ability to exercise sound editorial judgement and make good decisions under pressure.
To join this team you will need to be a highly motivated reporter with a strong knowledge of local and national news issues. You will bring:
- Proven reporting research and journalism skills.
- Experience producing digital news and social media content.
- Ability to source and maintain contacts across the broader Australian community.
- A current and valid drivers licence.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel to remote locations.
**Please note this role involves shift and weekend work.
