Job Duties
Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Medical Lab Assistant who will provide quality laboratory services for Western State Hospital and the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents through specimen collection specimen processing performing waived laboratory testing and other tasks associated with providing accurate and timely specimen analysis.
This position will participate as a rotating member of a laboratory phlebotomy team to collect blood specimens; perform phlebotomy using proper patient identification procedures technique tube selection and specimen handling requirements; process specimens for analysis including centrifugation aliquot preparation and delivery to testing department; perform waived laboratory testing according to facility policy including the appropriate performance and documentation of quality control; complete all specimen collection processing testing documentation QC maintenance training and competency according to standards established by CAP and hospital and departmental policy; coordinate continued rental and/or continued supply of equipment oxygen tanks etc. by communicating with ordering provider and/or treatment team and vendor; and assist with the preparation of quarterly PI reports to include the utilization report and other reports as needed or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification required or must be obtained within three years of hire date
- Knowledge of medical laboratory terminology
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse patient population
- Organizational ability and the ability to prioritize tasks to meet changing demands
- Ability to work with minimal supervision at a high level of productivity
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with patients staff and the general public
