Job Description

The Position:

Were looking for Mechanical Engineer to join our team. Our engineers perform technical assistance/troubleshooting on process and equipment to support our production needs. We perform mechanical design and project management for everything from continuous improvements to larger capital projects.


We are looking for safety-minded individuals with a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering. To perform this position successfully you will need to have proficiency in Solid Works. We would prefer the candidate to have 3 or more years of progressive engineering experience in an industrial environment. This position will be part of our 6 person engineering team at our manufacturing headquarters in Madison WI.



Essential Accountabilities

  1. Maintain a safe injury free and healthy work environment by following and enforcing safety and related procedures OSHA/ANSI rules and regulations with employees and contractors/vendors.
  2. Provide technical assistance to manufacturing tooling maintenance logistics and other areas of engineering related to developing new projects or analyzing potential process improvement projects.
  3. Provide technical expertise and leadership in resolving manufacturing equipment and related component problems throughout the company. Assist maintenance in effectively achieving manufacturing objectives for uptime and reliability.
  4. Specify design and facilitate installation of the mechanical component of capital facility and machine improvement projects.
  5. Manage mechanical capital projects and execute to a plan as predicted.
  6. Direct the work of team members involved in the installation of capital equipment and machine improvement project work.
  7. Establish design and construction specification standards for all mechanical components and maintain adherence to standards with internal and external vendors.
  8. Acquire or create and maintain mechanical drawings for all new and rebuilt equipment and machinery using a Computer Aided Design (CAD) system.
  9. Acquire or create and maintain manuals/documentation on all major hardware machine and mechanical components for use by team members.
  10. Provide technical training to maintenance and manufacturing related to the technical aspects of new and existing equipment and components.
  11. Remain technically current in the mechanical engineering field as it relates to the companys hardware components and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution and 3 or more years of progressively complex and responsible experience as a project engineer including experience leading capital projects.


Desired Skills

Knowledge of plastic materials production process and equipment

Knowledge related to effective production layout space requirements and interface of facility layouts

Knowledge of OSHA/ANSI regulations

Strong skills in CAD

Position requires a very high level of confidentiality where disclosure of information would have a detrimental effect on corporate activity

Ability to work as a member of a team on a broad range of projects

Excellent communication skills

Familiarity with Quality Systems

Knowledge of ISO requirements

Strong project management skills

Ability to interact well with a variety of people

Motivated self-starter

Personal computer misc. machinery hand tools forklift MS Office MS Project AutoCAD & or Solidworks

Lifting work (10 - 50 lbs): occasionally - parts & equipment Mental Requirements Reading Writing Calculating Interpersonal Skills Reasoning/Analysis Works with Minimal Supervision Strong Troubleshooting Skills Manage Multiple Priorities and Complex Projects


Travel Frequency (in addition to seminars or related training):

*Must Qualify for Placons authorized driver program

National: Up to 6 times per year

International: Up to 1 times per year
