Job Title: Middle School Assistant Football Coach
Reports To: Principal/ MS Athletic Director
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
- The primary function of the Middle School Assistant Football Coach is to assist the head coach in all aspects of the North Lawrence middle school football program.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for assisting middle school head coach in all matters relating to the organization administration and philosophy of the middle school football program under his/her direction.
- Serves in a leadership capacity in the football program.
- Adheres to the middle school Athletic Coaches Handbook
- Acts as a positive role model on and off the court/field/site etc.
- Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
- Maintains competency in NLCS rules event procedures coaching techniques and general information about all aspects of the sport.
- Works cooperatively with all athletic directors and students to ensure healthy and positive rivalries.
- Monitor athlete development (academically and athletically)
- Assists head coach in assigning duties to the coaching staff.
- Recruit athletes to play football and also encourage athletes to play multiple sports.
- Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
- Ensures that no bullying/hazing occurs in his/her sport.
- Establishes performance criteria for participation in interscholastic competition in his/her sport.
- Assist football players that want to play at the next level (eligibility and recruiting)
- Checks with the Athletic Office on an individual athletes eligibility. Enforces all rules of the IHSAA related to his/her sport.
- Oversees the safety condition of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
- Cooperates with the Athletic Director to verify that no participant is issued equipment or allowed to practice until his/her physical examination card has been completed and his/her insurance coverage is in effect.
- Enforces rules and regulations concerning the conditioning of players and their health and safety.
- Reports injuries to the athletic trainer through personal communication and completing and submitting incident reports to the athletic trainer and Athletic Office.
- Exercises great care in dealing with all injuries and particularly those that are of a serious nature. In all cases the coach should assure that the injured athlete is receiving competent medical care. Following injuries of a serious or prolonged nature the coach should secure the signed approval of the doctor and parent before the athlete is allowed to participate again in athletic activities.
- Provides supervision of all athletes until they have left the building and/or site.
- Ensures that all windows doors and gates are locked in any area that has been used.
- Assists head coach in planning all practice sessions and competitions and supervises out-of-season conditioning program.
- Ensures a positive environment free of hazing harassment bullying and intimidating language and behaviors.
- Assist head coach in planning special events such as assemblies Senior/Parent Night team meals awards banquet other special recognition etc.
- Assists head coach in maintaining an accurate inventory (uniforms equipment)
- Prepare teams to compete on Friday nights and Saturday mornings through lifting conditioning scouting practicing and analysis of statistical information.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid teaching certificate and a bachelors degree preferred.
- First aid and CPR training preferred.
- Ability to organize and oversee all aspects of a successful football program.
- Extensive knowledge of the game of football.
- Strong organization leadership and communication skills.
- Knowledge of proper training and conditioning techniques and ability to implement.
