Job Summary: | The Center for Surgical Innovation (CSI) at the University of Colorado is a multidisciplinary surgical training center dedicated to promoting educational courses and development of leading-edge surgical techniques and technologies. This position will assist the Lab Manager with coordinating the individual trainings which could consist of anywhere from 5-200 people on any given day to accommodate the clients schedules. The lab coordinator contributes to the overall efficiency of the laboratory in a cost-effective manner by performing a variety of tasks; for instance: assisting in the setup of the lab for trainings helping in running individual bioskills events maintaining and organizing the lab facility. This position will work side by side with the other lab coordinator and when needed will coordinate the work of the lab support staff. Examples of Work Performed Laboratory Technology I - Job Duties - Handling Blood and Bodily Fluids Safely manage blood and bodily fluids from cadavers in a simulated operating room.
- Tissue Management Receive verify sub-procure and maintain inventory of anatomical specimens.
- Specimen Preparation Prepare and pack anatomical specimens for surgical training use.
- Equipment & Supply Management Obtain maintain troubleshoot and manage instruments lab equipment and supplies.
- Laboratory Maintenance Oversee lab cleanliness disinfect tools properly dispose of waste and ensure OSHA compliance.
- Event & Client Assistance Support clients during events assist with unpacking equipment manage A/V requests and provide excellent customer service.
- Intern & Staff Supervision Manage lab interns oversee Lab Support staff and act as a backup as needed.
- Facility & Preventative Maintenance Ensure facility upkeep and coordinate equipment troubleshooting and repairs.
- Purchasing & Inventory Control Order supplies receive and stock materials needed for lab operations.
- Resident Room Management Coordinate resident scheduling equipment and tissue needs.
- Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance Follow Standard Operating Procedures to maintain an effective teaching environment.

Laboratory Technology II - Job Duties - Tissue & Specimen Handling Receive verify sub-procure and maintain inventory of anatomical specimens.
- Specimen Preparation Prepare and pack anatomical specimens for surgical training sessions.
- Blood & Bodily Fluid Handling Safely manage biological materials in a simulated operating environment maintaining OSHA compliance.
- Equipment & Supply Management Obtain maintain troubleshoot and ensure proper functionality of lab instruments and equipment.
- Event & Client Assistance Provide technical and logistical support for vendors physicians and clients during surgical training courses.
- Facility & Laboratory Maintenance Maintain cleanliness of lab areas disinfect tools and ensure proper disposal of waste.
- Standard Operating Procedures Compliance Follow established protocols to maintain an effective teaching and training environment.
- Intern & Staff Supervision Manage and oversee lab interns and Lab Tech I employees offering guidance as needed.
- Preventative Equipment Maintenance Troubleshoot equipment performance issues coordinate repairs and ensure operational readiness.
- Inventory & Purchasing Management Maintain supply levels order materials and oversee receipt and stocking of essential items.
- Resident Room Management Coordinate resident scheduling equipment needs and facility availability.

- Procedure Review & Documentation Participate in procedural updates and documentation to enhance training efficiency.

Laboratory Technology III - Job Duties - Blood & Tissue Handling Safely manage blood and bodily fluids from cadavers in a simulated operating room ensuring OSHA compliance.
- Specimen Processing & Verification Receive verify sub-procure prepare pack and maintain inventory of anatomical specimens.
- Equipment & Supply Oversight Obtain calibrate troubleshoot and maintain lab instruments and surgical equipment.
- Event & Client Support Assist vendors physicians and clients with logistical and technical needs during surgical training sessions.
- Facility & Laboratory Maintenance Oversee laboratory cleanliness disinfect tools and ensure proper disposal of waste.
- Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance Follow Standard Operating Procedures and maintain operational excellence in the teaching environment.
- Intern & Staff Supervision Manage and supervise lab staff including interns coordinators and Lab Tech I and II employees providing guidance and support.
- Preventative Equipment Maintenance Diagnose and resolve equipment performance issues coordinate repairs when needed.
- Procurement & Inventory Management Order receive and stock supplies essential for lab operations.
- Resident Room Coordination Organize scheduling equipment needs and facility usage for surgical training residents.

Qualifications: | Minimum Qualifications Laboratory Technology I - Two (2) years of relevant experience working in a lab or Bioskills industry
Laboratory Technology II - Five (5) years of relevant experience working in a lab or Bioskills industry
Laboratory Technology III - Six (6) years of relevant experience working in a lab or Bioskills industry
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree on a year for year basis Preferred Qualifications - Bachelors degree in biology molecular biology chemistry genetics or related field
- Experience working in an Academic Medical Center
Knowledge Skills and Abilities - Proficient knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
- Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution

Anticipated Pay Range: | The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as: Laboratory Technology I: $50722 - $58835 Laboratory Technology II: $53256 - $61775 Laboratory Technology III: $67968 - $78842 The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the Universitys good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
