Job Description

Qualifications:

  1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. Working knowledge of repair and maintenance of school buses
  3. Must have a CDL with passenger and school bus certificate
  4. Must have a current drivers license
  5. Be insurable with our insurance company and maintain status
  6. Work experience on school buses highly desired

FSLA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To:Supervisor

Background CheckRequired:(Ala. Code 16-22A-5) Upon offer of employment employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks must not be more than 10 years old.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Diagnosis of failures and problems in various vehicles units such as transmission engines electrical systems exhaust systems etc.
  2. Performs major overhaul and repair work on various school vehicles (primarily school buses)
  3. Must be able to obtain certification by the State Department of Transportation as a mechanic
  4. Complies with safety requirements
  5. Keep records of time materials parts and work performed in accordance with department policy
  6. Participates in on-the-job and other formal and informal training and orientation programs
  7. Performs duties as assigned
  • This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
  • Under the Students First Act of 2011 no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.

Expected Employment: 240 days/8 hrs. (full year)

Evaluation: According to established Board policies and administrative procedures and guidelines.

Salary: According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year). Up to 10 years experience will be counted for new employees who provide documentation of full-time experience in the area of concentration.
