West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science & New Branches Charter Academy Grand Rapids Area MI
Support Student Success Across Two Purpose-Driven Schools
We are seeking a passionate and collaborative Occupational Therapist to join our team in a shared position supporting students at both West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science (WMAES) and New Branches Charter Academy (NBCA). This role is ideal for a dedicated professional who is excited by the opportunity to serve two vibrant mission-focused school communities.
This is a full-time position split equally between WMAES and NBCA (0.5 FTE at each site).

West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science (Walker MI):
With 62 acres of outdoor learning space - including forests wetlands gardens and nature trails - WMAES provides a discovery-based learning environment where students learn from and with nature every day.
New Branches Charter Academy (Grand Rapids MI):
Located on a beautiful 12-acre campus with walking trails New Branches is committed to nurturing the whole child through experiential learning sustainability education and strong community partnerships.
Together both schools serve diverse learners in dynamic and supportive environments that emphasize character creativity and care for the environment.
Position Overview
As our Occupational Therapist you will provide direct and consultative services that empower students to engage more fully in school activities and achieve their academic goals. You will assess plan and deliver interventions tailored to each students functional developmental and sensory needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction Assessment & Support
Evaluate student motor sensory and adaptive needs through assessments and screenings
Develop and implement individualized therapy plans based on IEPs and student goals
Provide direct therapy sessions and consult with educators and staff
Support skill development in fine motor coordination self-regulation daily living tasks and classroom participation
IEP Development & Compliance
Participate in special education team meetings and develop appropriate IEP goals
Ensure accurate documentation of services progress and Medicaid-compliant billing
Use designated special education management systems to track and report services
Collaboration & Communication
Foster strong partnerships with teachers support staff administrators and families
Provide training and strategies to classroom teams to promote student independence
Travel between school sites as scheduled to provide consistent support at each location
What You Bring
Minimum Requirements:
Masters degree in Occupational Therapy
Valid Michigan licensure (OTR/L)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage a flexible dual-building caseload
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in school-based or pediatric occupational therapy
Familiarity with IEP processes sensory integration and assistive technology
Strong documentation and organizational skills
A passion for supporting diverse learners in inclusive environments
