About the Position

Are you an Emergency Management graduate or undergraduate student with a proven ability to maintain composure in high-pressure situations Do you excel in preparing for the worst while hoping for the best If so we invite you to apply for our Emergency Management Intern position. In this role you will leverage your expertise to develop comprehensive plans for preparedness response and recovery from extraordinary emergencies. Join our team and contribute to creating safer more resilient communities in Maricopa County. This position requires the employee to work in office/field or in a customer-facing capacity for all hours worked and is scheduled for 19.5 hours per week. The pay for this position is $21.00 per hour.

About Us

Are you ready to help your community prepare for a large-scale emergency and keep our County safe We are looking for motivated individuals to rise to the occasion! Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management prepares for responds to and recovers from large-scale community disasters. Security Services is a division within the Emergency Management Department that provides specialized armed security services and executive protection to our County leaders and ensures the safety of County facilities and property. Some of our partners include local and state governments industry leaders universities and community organizations active in disasters. A few of our unique programs are Securing the Cities (STC) which is a preventative radiological and nuclear detection program that partners with law enforcement agencies and fire departments to enhance their radiation detection capabilities by providing equipment training and plan development support. Also we are responsible for off-site planning for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. Our department embraces cutting-edge technologies and innovative partnerships to bring unique solutions to complicated problems. Join our team to continue our efforts to keep our residents safe!

This position is open to graduate students or undergraduate seniors in Emergency Management or Public Administration.

Working Conditions

This position may require the employee to exert 20-25 pounds occasionally 10-25 pounds frequently or up to 10 pounds constantly. Work is typically performed in an office or administrative setting and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
