Job Description

Associate Systems Engineer

The Boeing Defense Space and Security (BDS) Space and Launch Division isseeking a Associate Systems Engineer (Level 2) to joinour team in Springfield VA.

The Space and Launch Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Our teamfocuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment concept development proposal writing requirements and design build integration test and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

This position will be a part of a high-performing team that is immersed in high intensity projects. As a member of our team you will have the opportunity to serve as a focal point for ensuring spacecraft safety of flight and coordination between contractor and government operations teams. This role will support daily operations in the end to end technical management of a spacecraft mission and/or tosupport vulnerability assessments of a spacecraft mission. This position will provide on-site operational support and oversight and implementation guidance for safe mission operations and special test activities. This role involves ensuring long-term activities are planned and coordinated across wide community of government and civilian spacecraft.

Note: This position may require the employee to be on-call during times outside of nominal business hours.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides daily oversight of vehicle subsystem functionality

  • Resolves cross-functional technical issues

  • Reviews operational logs and addressing concerns

  • Reviews daily trend plots

  • Reviews limit checks across subsystems

  • Supports factory and customer requests for specific monitoring or activities

  • Coordinates implementation of Boeing Factory Recommendations

  • Coordinates technical issue resolutions with local and factory experts

  • Conducts review(s) and closure(s) of discrepancy reports

  • Provides support to a daily Site- Factory interface meeting

  • Develops scripts and tools with Perl Python Matlab Excel/VBA etc

  • Authors and updating multiple types of documentation

  • Maintains knowledge of vehicle contingency procedures

  • Maintains current workarounds and memograms (operational directives)

  • Maintains vehicle databases as required

  • Supports memogram development providing oversight to anomaly resolution from the system perspective

  • Supports calibration activities as required

  • Reviews and reporting trend analysis

  • Supports deployments to contingency command and control facilities

  • Provides weekly and monthly status of vehicle performance

  • Provides vehicle payload specific briefings and written reports as required

  • Supports special Systems Engineering tests and transition related activities

This position requires an active Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance with adjudicated counter intelligence polygraph for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship as a condition of employment.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology) chemistry physics mathematics data science or computer science

  • 2 years of experience in space system

  • Ability to successfully complete the Space Vehicle Certification program which requires a combination of self-study and on-the-job (OJT) training (post-start)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Prior military service or experience in national space programs

  • Experience working directly with aerospace vehicles.

  • Experience with orbital mechanics and/or collision avoidance maneuver planning and satellite orbit operations analysis.

  • Experience with laser or optical engineering/analysis and/or nuclear effects and impacts to space assets.

  • Experience with RF engineering and de-confliction analysis including RF interference spectrum protection and mitigation planning.
