The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections (NCDAC) is the largest state agency and is responsible for the care custody and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons Correction Enterprises Division of Community Corrections and Reentry Programs and Services.

The NCDAC / Support Services / Division of Engineering Construction and Maintenance (DECM) is recruiting for an energized and collaborative Project Architect (Architect II) to be a part of the DECM Engineering Team. This position has a duty station at the DECM Office Complex off Yonkers Road in Raleigh NC and will be tasked with applying architectural based knowledge forward-thinking direction and overall project management.
A successful candidate for the Project Architect (Architect II) will provide DECM Engineering with in-house architectural support on life-safety ADA energy efficiency egress and space planning on NCDACs facilities physical plant for the completion of Force Account construction renovation and/or major maintenance projects. This position works closely with other in-house design disciplines construction and maintenance personnel within DECM and with outside design and construction entities to provide services to the department in the form of plan development specification writing estimating building envelope and roof evaluations field investigations project management and planning scoping budgeting and evaluation of other systems for new and existing facilities.
This position requires the daily commute to DECMs Office Complex off Yonkers Road in Raleigh NC. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The work schedule is Monday Friday and may require some weekend work to meet the demands of the organization. Flexible work schedules can be discussed at the time of offered employment.
As of January 1 2025 there are new Salary increase adjustments to the States pay plan which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission. Effective January 1 2025. The new salary range (s) will be $64621.00 - $113088.00.

Bachelor s degree in architecture or an engineering discipline related to the area of assignment from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of related experience as a registered architect; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience. Necessary Special Qualifications - Valid license to practice architecture granted by the North Carolina Board of Architecture.
We support the Institutions and Facilities directly and indirectly by installing and maintaining kitchen plumbing mechanical electrical and electronics equipment. The DECM-Engineering team consists of experts in architectural and engineering design property services project management and sustainability efficiency and resiliency (SE&R). These services support new construction renovation and like-in-kind and upgrade maintenance repairs to the agencys physical plant while ensuring compliance with the NCDOA State Construction Office.
Through valuable rehabilitation and training for offenders we aim to improve recidivism rates. DECM-Construction undertakes construction renovation and major maintenance projects that involve longer periods of resource allocation with a focus on enhancing the departments infrastructure assets. DECM-Maintenance which encompasses the Mountain Regional Yard Piedmont Regional Yard Coastal Regional Yard and three Satellite Yards provides essential plumbing HVAC/R and electrical preventative prescriptive and routine maintenance services to all Institutions and Facilities. Additionally our maintenance efforts include specific areas such as telecommunications electronic intrusion systems (EIS) fencing cameras fire alarms and energy management systems all focused on maintaining the Departments infrastructure assets.
