Job Description

DEFINITION OF POSITION:Directly responsible for quality instruction of 9th-12th grade health and/or physical education

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building Principal

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess a Washington State Teaching Certificate with a Health/Fitness endorsement
  • Teaching substituting or student teaching experience in either health and/or physical education

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Endorsements in other core academic subject areas
  • Experience as a Health/Fitness teacher
  • Experience teaching at the high school level
  • Experience with weight training as an instructor or participant
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic computer skills including word processing and e-mail
  • Evidence of participation in building and school committees and/or activities
  • Knowledge of the unique needs of high school students
  • Ability to create a warm and inviting learning environment for students
  • Ability to recognize conditions which may lead to disciplinary problems

ESSENTIAL JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES:

  • Fulfill all teaching assignments including 9th through 12th grade health and/or physical education
  • Supervise female students locker room
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members at the school
  • Plan and develop quality instructional experiences regularly followed by appropriate assessment and feedback for students and parents
  • Select and/or create instructional lessons to appropriately support adopted materials
  • Organize the physical setting to contribute to and model an environment conducive to learning
  • Manage student behavior and class climate to foster a positive and safe environment both physically and emotionally
  • Regularly demonstrate professionalism in appearance actions decisions and overall performance
  • Participate in required building and district activities with a willingness to serve on district committees
  • Follow through with assigned duties including hall and bus duty supervision
  • Work positively with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization
  • Work with colleagues in a collaborative manner and be a positive team builder
  • Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Deal with the public other agencies and district employees in a positive and productive manner
  • Communicate clearly both orally and in writing
  • Work with minimal supervision and be flexible

TERMS OF THE CONTRACT:

  • Salary: $27044 - $50974 placement based on experience and level of education
  • Length of Contract: .8 FTE leave replacement position beginning August 27 2025 through January 23 2026
  • Leaves/Benefits: Medical dental vision life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year. Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per the collective bargaining agreement between the PullmanEducation Association (PEA) and the Pullman School District (PEA Bargaining Agreement).
