Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Assess diagnose and provide therapeutic services to students with speech voice or language disorders. Support students in achieving academic success by addressing communication needs as they relate to the educational environment.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders

  • Valid Texas license as a Speech-Language Pathologist granted by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA (preferred not required)

  • TEA Speech Therapy Services Provider approval (if applicable)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of evaluation habilitation and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders

  • Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Knowledge of ARD/IEP process and state/federal special education requirements

Experience:

  • Experience in public schools preferred

  • Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) candidates may be considered under supervision

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Assessment & Evaluation

  • Conduct speech and language assessments using appropriate instruments and procedures

  • Evaluate students referred for suspected speech-language impairments and complete written reports

  • Participate in ARD committee meetings to interpret evaluations and recommend services

Therapy & Intervention

  • Develop and implement therapy plans that address IEP goals and objectives

  • Provide direct speech-language services to eligible students

  • Utilize a variety of therapeutic techniques and materials

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law district policy and administrative regulation

  • Document student progress and communicate with staff and families

  • Write measurable goals and objectives in IEPs and contribute to present levels of performance

Collaboration

  • Consult with teachers parents and staff to support classroom accommodations and interventions

  • Collaborate with other professionals (OT PT Diagnostician LSSP etc.) as needed

Professionalism

  • Maintain continuing education and licensure requirements

  • Uphold district policies procedures and ethical standards of practice

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Director

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress

  • Frequent standing walking lifting (up to 25 lbs) and/or prolonged use of computer and testing materials

  • Possible travel between campuses
