Job Description

Summary

Responsible for technical functions in support of engineering activities such as design test checkout modification fabrication and assembly of prototype electro-mechanical systems experimental design circuitry or specialized test equipment. Applications may include analog digital and/or video circuits and logic systems. Will apply principles and theories of electronics electrical circuitry engineering mathematics electronic and electrical testing and physics as applicable. Conducts engineering tests and detailed experimental testing to collect design data or assist in research work. Performs operational test and fault isolation on systems and equipment. Assists in determining methods or actions to remedy malfunctions. Assists in the design construction test and check-out of test equipment. Utilize manufacturing test development or diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes VOD DVM signal generators and specialized test apparatus. Usually works under direction of engineering staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following but not limited to:

  • Discusses layout and assembly procedures and problems with Engineers or management and draws sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic units.
  • Recommends changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance.
  • Works from schematics diagrams written and verbal descriptions layouts or defined plans to perform testing checkout and trouble-shooting functions.
  • Sets up standard test apparatus or devises to conduct functional operational environmental and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production model.
  • Adjusts calibrates aligns and modifies circuitry and components and records effects on unit performance.
  • Checks functioning of newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions.
  • Read blueprints wiring diagrams schematic drawings or engineering instructions for assembling electronics units applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
  • Perform preventative maintenance or calibration of equipment or systems.
  • Adjust or replace defective or improperly functioning circuitry or electronics components using hand tools or soldering iron.
  • Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions working with external and/or internal sources as necessary to procure replacement parts.
  • May maintain system logs or manuals to document testing or operation of equipment.
  • Provide customer support and education working with users to identify needs determine sources of problems or to provide information on product use.

Education and/or Experience High School diploma or GED equivalent and some degree of vocational or technical training in environmental safety preferred and/or equivalent combination of education and 0-2 years of experience in a directly related field.

Mathematical Skills Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.

Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend work and safety instructions short correspondence and memos.

Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
