About You
The position contributes to the activities of the Solving Plastic Waste CRC which was established on 1 July 2024 as a 10-year Cooperative Research Centre. The Solving Plastic Waste (SPW) CRCs mission is to ensure that focused industry-driven collaboration between the research sector governments and the entire plastics value chain is effectively enabled over the next decade to transform the way plastic products are designed manufactured used recovered and recycled and how microplastic soil pollution is remediated (also see: Solving Plastic Waste CRC Rethinking the way we design use and reuse plastics).
The position relates to the SPW CRCs Research Program on Materials and Design and specifically to a project to improve the production of biodegradable polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) from renewable resources.
To be successful in this position you will have:
Skills and knowledge in microbiology DNA sequencing and bioinformatic analyses.
Extensive experience in microbial ecology.
Project management experience working with a range of stakeholders.
Proven track record of publishing and reporting to stakeholders.
Strong communication skills.
Proven ability to undertake scientific research and development in research programs.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a member of a research team and independently when required to meet project outcomes and milestones.
Ability to co-supervise postgraduate research students.
Ability to contribute to the teaching and learning program in a relevant field.
Early to mid-career researcher with experience on sustainability projects.
