OVERVIEW The ECS Environmental Citizenship Teacher has strong teaching abilities an understanding of pedagogy and instructional practices that support education for and about sustainability. This educator uses the UN SDGs as the blueprint for teaching the topics of sustainability and recognizes that they must also lead with the skills values and mindsets necessary in nurturing a global citizen. The Environmental Citizenship Teacher works collaboratively with the Environmental Citizenship Department to focus on integration of the sciences humanities civic engagement technology arts and design. Educators will develop a students sense of place through outdoor experiences and education. Candidates must be willing to play an active role in reflection design and implementation and be comfortable with ambiguity.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Instructional Delivery
- Structure compelling standard or competency aligned lessons that challenge students critical thinking and collaboration skills; lessons are aligned with course outcomes
- Infuse joy and rigor in lessons so that students are excited about and invested in their academic excellence
- Utilize strong content knowledge to effectively present material to students
- Employ multiple methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities including special education students gifted education students and English language learners
- Provides personalized learning opportunities through PBL Design Thinking or Competency Based Learning experiences
- Uses technology and blended learning opportunities to support personalized learning pathways
Assessments - Regularly evaluate student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessment and performance tasks.
- Uses portfolios and performance assessments to support the ECS Graduate Portrait competencies.
- Use data to analyze students academic strengths and deficits to drive individualized instruction and to design academic interventions as needed.
- Use photographs interviews and observation to document the learning process of students over time.
School Community - Communicate regularly with families to share academic progress and develop a supportive home-school relationship
- Actively engage with the school community by attending annual ECS events such as Earth Night and Open House
- Articulate the Environmental Charter Schools guiding principles and instructional pillars to the greater community
Educational Background and Work Experience - Bachelors degree from an accredited institution
- PA certification required
- Minimum of 3-5 years teaching experience preferred
- Demonstrated experience in developing integrated curriculum courses or units of study
- Familiarity with charter schools
- Experience collaborating with local partners
Compensation and Benefits - Minimum starting salary of $44716 up to a maximum starting salary of $51056 dependent upon prior years teaching experience.
