Job Title: Body Shop Mechanic
Position Summary:
The Body Shop Mechanic is responsible for performing advanced mechanical and technical repairs on collision-damaged vehicles to restore them to manufacturer specifications. This position focuses on suspension and steering systems drivetrain removal and reinstallation electrical and diagnostic functions and safety-critical components.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform suspension repairs and replacements including control arms struts shocks and related components.
- Diagnose and repair steering systems including racks gears pumps and electronic assist systems.
- Remove and reinstall dashboards (R&I) to gain access for collision repairs.
- Replace and reset airbag and restraint systems following manufacturer and safety guidelines.
- Perform engine and transmission removal and reinstallation (R&I) to facilitate collision repairs.
- Conduct wheel alignments and wheel/tire balancing.
- Complete computerized diagnostics and scanning including pre- and post-repair scans.
- Diagnose and repair electrical systems including lighting wiring sensors and modules.
- Perform ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) calibrations including radar camera and sensor alignment.
- Replace batteries and perform high-voltage safety checks for hybrid and electric vehicles.
- Remove and reinstall interior trim components including seats panels and accessories.
- Inspect test and replace seatbelts and restraint systems as required.
- Test drive vehicles after repair to ensure proper function and safety.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and comply with all safety and environmental regulations.
- Document all work performed accurately and completely in repair orders.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or ASE certifications preferred.
- Minimum 23 years of experience in mechanical repair; collision/mechanical experience a plus.
- Proficiency in computerized diagnostic equipment and wheel alignment systems.
- Knowledge of ADAS calibration processes and hybrid/EV safety protocols preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret repair manuals wiring diagrams and technical bulletins.
- Strong attention to detail problem-solving and time management skills.
- Valid drivers license and clean driving record required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in physically demanding positions (standing bending kneeling).
- Comfortable working with various tools equipment and diagnostic systems.
