Emergence is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Bilingual (Spanish) IPV/SUD Counselor to help people who have committed acts of interpersonal violence understand and change their behavior. This position offers cross training as a SUD counselor including helping you obtain a CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor). EMERGENCE is willing to train the right person.

Position Summary:

The IPV/SUD counselor delivers treatment and services to individuals living with Substance Use Disorder and provides support to individuals experiencing domestic violence or intimae partner violence.


Hiring Bonus: $3500. $1500 paid on your first regular paycheck $2000 after 6 months.

Interpersonal Violence/Substance Use Disorder Counselor Responsibilities: An interpersonal violence (IPV) counselor helps address the root causes of their abusive behavior and promotes safety for survivors of interpersonal violence.

  • Independently supports daily management of treatment activities
  • Collaborates with the supervisory staff and Program Director other senior staff members and other counselors in building and maintains an engaging treatment environment that motivates clients to focus on problematic behaviors and teaches clients more productive coping strategies
  • Assesses the psychosocial functioning of assigned clients and develops individualized treatment plans
  • Apprises team members of specific treatment plans and intervention strategies so that therapeutic consistency can be maintained
  • Leads treatment groups according to agency treatment guidelines
  • Develops discharge/aftercare plans and makes appropriate referrals for follow-up care
  • Documents relevant clinical information including treatment plans treatment reviews progress notes and discharge summaries
  • Provides crisis intervention services information and referrals to clients and their family
  • Provides motivational counseling to clients to encourage participation in family support programs
  • Teaches specialized treatment concepts to client groups according to the agency treatment schedule
  • Provides complete and accurate written and oral formats regarding the course of treatment to families referral sources and legal representatives.

IPV/SUD Counselor Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Fluent in Spanish and English: reading writing and speaking
  • CADC-I or CADC-R OR willingness to become certified within two years from date of hire
  • Desire to help people suffering addiction achieve long-term recovery
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

IPV/SUD Counselor Preferred Qualifications:

  • CADC -I CADC-II
  • Associates degree in chemical dependency Social Service or related field
  • Previous experience working with substance use disorder
  • Previous experience working with justice involved clients

IPV/SUD Counselor Salary Range:

$50500 to $57500 depending on education and experience
